Davina McCall to lead Stand Up to Cancer broadcast as Channel 4 announces “pioneering” Cancer Clinic: Live

Stand Up to Cancer is back next month, and Davina McCall and Adam Hills will be hosting a special night of shows.

Join Channel 4 on Friday, December 12th for a special live broadcast! It’ll include popular shows like Celebrity Gogglebox and The Last Leg, plus heartfelt stories and performances, all to raise money for vital cancer research with support from the public and celebrities.

Channel 4 and Cancer Research UK have teamed up on a new campaign to encourage more people to take advantage of NHS cancer screenings.

The main event of the evening is “Cancer Clinic: Live,” a new and innovative campaign led by McCall. It will be a live broadcast filmed directly inside a unique, temporary cancer clinic located at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.

Viewers will follow the real-life stories of cancer patients and their families, witnessing their experiences from initial diagnosis, through receiving results, and as they undergo treatment.

For the first time on UK television, viewers will be able to watch real-time consultations between cancer specialists at Addenbrooke’s and Royal Papworth Hospitals and their patients.

We want to make cancer clinics less intimidating, address the fear that stops people from getting checked, and highlight how crucial early detection is for saving lives.

The campaign begins on Friday, December 5th and will continue until the live event the following week.

Dermot Murnaghan, who announced his cancer diagnosis earlier in 2024, will be helping with the election campaign by presenting some of the evening news updates on Channel 4 throughout the week.

Cancer Research UK reports that nine million people in the UK haven’t had their recommended cancer screenings. These screenings are important because they can find cancer early, when treatment works best, and sometimes even stop it from developing altogether.

To encourage more people to respond to their NHS screening invitations, a new online tool is being launched. This simple checker helps individuals quickly determine if they are eligible for screening.

After recently sharing her breast cancer diagnosis, McCall explained she wants to make cancer screening less frightening and remind people they have support. She’s been involved with Stand Up to Cancer UK since its beginning in 2012 and decided this year she wanted to move beyond television and connect directly with people going through cancer diagnoses.

During the Stand Up to Cancer broadcast, I’ll be joining dedicated doctors and medical staff to give viewers a real look inside a cancer clinic. Our goal with ‘Cancer Clinic: Live’ is to show the amazing care, cutting-edge science, and compassionate support that patients receive, and to emphasize that finding cancer early leads to more choices and a brighter outlook.

Throughout the week, we’ll be challenging celebrities to participate in fun and unusual activities – all to raise money for cancer research and encourage people to learn more about cancer screening and dispel common myths using our online checker.

Tune in to Channel 4 as we remember loved ones lost to cancer and celebrate the amazing progress being made in research – breakthroughs that are transforming how we treat the disease.
