U&Gold has released a preview of their new documentary honoring the late comedian Victoria Wood.
A new film celebrating the life and work of Victoria Wood, featuring tributes from stars like Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders, Jessica Barden, and Michael Ball, will be in cinemas from January 9th, 2026. It will then be shown on U&GOLD in February.
I just got out of a 90-minute documentary that really tries to get under the skin of a comedy icon. It wasn’t just about the laughs, though. The film digs into the struggles – the insecurities, the anger, and the self-doubt – that this performer kept hidden behind their public joy. It’s a fascinating look at the experiences and personal fights that actually fueled their incredible talent and made them so beloved by the nation.
The collection will include previously unreleased content, such as interviews and audio diaries Wood created while filming the hit show Dinnerladies, plus a recording of her very first performance from 1973.
I remember when this documentary was first announced back in May, and UKTV’s Hilary Rosen really hit the nail on the head. She said, and I completely agree, that Victoria Wood was simply one of the greatest comedic talents Britain has ever seen. It’s a sentiment that really sets the stage for what promises to be a fantastic look at her life and work.
The upcoming film will tell the story of Victoria’s life from the beginning, showing how she launched her career and became a celebrated performer. It will highlight her talent for capturing both the humor and the heartfelt moments of ordinary life through her beautiful writing.

James Rogan, the executive producer, said Victoria Wood was a comedy legend. He described discovering the roots of her talent as a captivating and previously untold part of her remarkable story.
We’re excited to share her incredible talent and story with viewers on both the big and small screen, and to remind everyone of her distinctive perspective and gift for comedy.
Catherine Abbott from Imagine: The Academy of Armando is directing, and Rogan Scotland of Rogan Productions is producing the project alongside Phil McIntyre TV.
