Dax Shepard Weighs In on Kristen Bell’s Controversial Anniversary Post

Dax Shepard was no expert on this Kristen Bell controversy.

Almost six months after his wife caused controversy with an anniversary message that made light of murder, the former star of Parenthood shared that he didn’t realize there was any negative reaction at the time.

Dax said on his April 6th podcast, Armchair Expert, that he found out about it from someone else. He explained that Kristen knew about it through her publicist, but she hadn’t told him, so he was completely unaware until someone brought it to his attention.

The 51-year-old said he only learned about the public’s negative reaction around a week and a half after the Frozen actress posted about the anniversary.

He explained that he was completely confused. Someone tried to explain what was happening, but he just asked what they were talking about. He then had to ask Kristen for clarification, and she told him it was about a post she had made.

I’m such a fan of Kristen and Dax! They recently celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary, and Kristen shared the sweetest photo of them hugging. The caption she wrote totally cracked me up – she remembered when Dax, after watching an episode of Dateline, jokingly told her he’d never hurt her, even admitting he had ‘incentives’ but wouldn’t go there. It’s just so them – funny, a little dark, and completely adorable. They got married back in 2013, and it’s clear they’re still totally in love.

Lots of people found Kristen’s caption amusing and said so in the comments, but not everyone felt the same way.

One user pointed out that making light of real-life violence is unacceptable, even as a joke, stating, “This isn’t right, joke or not.”

I’ve been following their story for a while now, and while she never directly talked about all the drama, she did eventually share how much Dax cares about her, which was really sweet to see after everything that happened.

She told People magazine in February that he always goes above and beyond for her. She loves that her husband encourages her success and never feels threatened when she excels. He genuinely wants her to shine.

Dax remembers being immediately struck by Kristen when he first saw her at a birthday party in 2007 – he thought she seemed to sparkle! They met again by chance at a hockey game a couple of weeks later, and decided it was meant to be, starting a relationship soon after.

They started dating in late 2009 while filming When In Rome. The romantic setting of Italy seemed to work its magic on them, and they quickly fell in love, mirroring the story of their movie.

Oh my gosh, back in 2010, Kristen actually said that a snuggle party could fix anything! It’s so true, honestly. Like, whenever I’m feeling down, I just imagine her and Dax having a snuggle party and suddenly everything feels better. It’s the most adorable and insightful thing ever, and it totally proves their relationship is just… perfect!

In 2013, the couple married in a low-key ceremony at a Beverly Hills courthouse, following their earlier announcement on Twitter. Fans found their decision to skip a large, elaborate wedding particularly endearing, adding to the romantic appeal of their relationship.

I was so thrilled when Kristen and Dax welcomed their daughter, Lincoln, in March 2013! Kristen is such a devoted mom, and she’s made it very clear she’s incredibly protective of Lincoln’s privacy. I remember her jokingly saying she wanted to see what would happen to anyone who even tried to take a photo of her little girl – it really showed how seriously she takes keeping Lincoln’s life private, and I completely respect that.

In December 2014 the couple had their second daughter, Delta.

In a May 2015 interview with Good Housekeeping, Kristen revealed that she and her husband go to couples counseling when they face challenges, emphasizing that “Therapy is nothing to be ashamed of.”

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I remember being so excited when Kristen Bell finally joined Instagram back in 2016!
