A new fan theory offers a clever solution for bringing a beloved, long-missing DC character back to the screen. With James Gunn and Peter Safran’s revamped DC Universe already underway – as seen in shows like *Creature Commandos*, *Superman*, and the second season of *Peacemaker* – fans are excited to see familiar faces. However, one particularly popular character has been noticeably absent since the beginning of this new DC Universe.
In January 2023, James Gunn revealed the first ten projects for the new DC Universe (DCU), grouped under the banner “Gods and Monsters.” While the second season of *Peacemaker* wasn’t initially part of this announcement, it now falls within the DCU and could have set up one of the announced projects that hasn’t happened yet. A key character’s lack of appearance in *Peacemaker* season 2 seemed to rule out that possibility, but a new fan theory suggests a different way to bring Viola Davis back as Amanda Waller into the DCU.
Amanda Waller Rising to Power Again is the Perfect Story for the DCU’s Waller Series
Back in 2023, James Gunn revealed plans for a series centered around the character Waller at DC Studios, but there haven’t been many updates since. Though Gunn has stated the project is still in development, it’s moving slowly. A recent theory from X user @ViewpointGeek suggests a compelling storyline that could bring Viola Davis back to the DC Universe following her voice role in *Creature Commandos*. The idea is that the series could depict Amanda Waller rebuilding her power after being exposed by her daughter in the first season of *Peacemaker*.
What I Think the DCU Waller Series Is Really About

According to ViewpointGeek, a potential series about Amanda Waller could be similar in tone to shows like *Succession* or *House of Cards*, focusing on political maneuvering rather than typical DC action. Following her public exposure in *Peacemaker* season one, Waller continued directing ARGUS and formed Task Force M, the Creature Commandos. However, she was later removed from her position at ARGUS, creating an opportunity for a series to show her regaining power. The show could depict her skillfully manipulating the system, using blackmail, and strategically rebuilding Task Force X, formerly known as the Suicide Squad.
Who Could Oppose Amanda Waller in Her Upcoming DCU Series?
If the upcoming *Waller* series focuses on Amanda Waller regaining control, potentially becoming the Director of ARGUS once more, she’ll need a strong and clever opponent. Several characters could challenge her return to power, and the current ARGUS Director, Rick Flag Sr. (played by Frank Grillo), is a likely candidate. Motivated by revenge for his son’s death in *The Suicide Squad*, Flag already controls ARGUS’s resources. However, he might not be Waller’s most significant obstacle.
A fan theory suggests that Amanda Waller’s ultimate enemies in the new DC Universe might have already appeared. This could include her own daughter, Leota Adebayo (played by Danielle Brooks), who previously exposed Waller’s secret operations in *Peacemaker*. Adebayo could continue to challenge Waller’s plans. Another possibility is Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn), who could seek greater power through his company, LordTech, and the Justice Gang. The theory also proposes introducing King Faraday, a classic DC Comics character, as a new adversary for Waller.
Why Amanda Waller Should Still Be a Huge Part of the DCU
With the new DC Universe heavily featuring ARGUS and Peacemaker (played by John Cena), and constantly referencing the events of *The Suicide Squad* and Amanda Waller’s past actions, her return seems certain. She should be a central figure in the DCU, continuing her roles from the DC Extended Universe as the head of ARGUS and creator of Task Force X. Waller could lead the more realistic, down-to-earth stories, allowing characters like Superman, Supergirl, and the Green Lanterns to focus on larger, more epic adventures.
A series focused on Amanda Waller regaining power would be a great addition to the DC Universe. It’s unfortunate the show is taking a while to develop, but each new DC project released beforehand will make Waller’s climb to the top more challenging—and ultimately, more rewarding to watch. DC Studios should definitely continue working with Viola Davis, a phenomenal actress who perfectly embodies the strength and force of Amanda Waller, ensuring her place as a central figure in the DC Universe for years to come.
