DC Fans Just Nailed the Perfect Casting for a Cult Superhero We Need on Screen

Comic book movie fans love to imagine who should play their favorite characters, even before any casting announcements are made. Some actors consistently pop up in these fan-made lists. For example, when James Gunn took charge of the DC Universe, many fans suggested Jason Momoa for the role of Lobo – and it turned out to be a perfect fit, just like with Supergirl. Similarly, fans campaigned for Nathan Fillion to play Green Lantern after enjoying his voice acting in animated projects. Although he didn’t become Hal Jordan, he delivered an even more memorable performance as Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern in Superman.

Nicolas Cage recently wowed audiences with his role as Spider-Noir in the Marvel series on Prime Video, and now fans are hoping he’ll take on a DC superhero role. A post on X (formerly Twitter) by DCU Alert suggested that Nicolas Cage playing The Question would be a fantastic choice.

Nicolas Cage Could Be a Perfect Question

Nicolas Cage surprised everyone with his excellent performance as The Spider. While he was expected to fully commit to the role, it’s unusual to see an actor of his age cast in an action-heavy superhero part. Though stunt doubles were used, Cage truly brought the character of Ben Reilly to life in this Prime Video Spider-Noir series. Now that he’s delivered such a compelling performance, fans are wondering if he could bring this same gritty, detective style to the DC Universe.

The Question is a character who has taken on a few different identities in comic books, but is most famously known as Vic Sage. By day, Vic is an investigative reporter, but at night he becomes a masked vigilante. His mask is unique because its features are always shifting. Originally, the Question was driven by a search for deeper meaning in life, but he eventually became convinced that many conspiracies are actually real. During the year-long “52” story arc, he was a key character who battled lung cancer and ultimately passed the mantle on to Renee Montoya. Later, in the Rebirth continuity, Vic Sage returned as the Question.

As a film fan, I’ve been thinking about who could play The Question in the new DCU, and Nicolas Cage really strikes me as a great fit. He’s got this vibe that reminds me of Ben Reilly from Spider-Noir – a bit mysterious and gritty. Plus, Cage can still convincingly play younger roles, and The Question’s mask would add to that. He’s not a flashy fighter; The Question is more of an investigator who gets into rough scuffles when he has to, and that feels like something Cage could nail. I saw some people online weren’t thrilled with the idea, hoping for a totally unknown actor, but I honestly think having a recognizable face like Cage could really bring The Question the attention he deserves – he’s a cult favorite, and it’s time more people knew about him.
