DC Just Gave Superman Multiple Absurd Power Ups At Once

DC K.O. is the latest event from the company, and they’re aiming for incredibly exciting and unforgettable battles. Following a dangerous qualifying round, thirty-two heroes and villains were sent to a barren planet to search for powerful artifacts. These items – including every type of Lantern ring and the Blue Beetle scarab – could drastically alter the future. The competitors already include some of the DC Universe’s strongest characters, and the tournament will push them to become even more powerful.

During the first round, Superman absorbed the Omega Sanction – the power source of Darkseid – becoming incredibly powerful. Although he didn’t rely on that same dark energy in the second round, he achieved an even greater level of power, showcasing one of his most formidable forms yet. The battle between Superman and Captain Atom in DC K.O.: Superman vs. Captain Atom #1 was a relentlessly intense and explosive fight, living up to all expectations.

A Three-Round Brawl in Their Mightiest Form

The second round began with Superman and Captain Atom suddenly appearing in a deserted Metropolis, courtesy of the Heart of Apokalips. While Superman immediately started looking for survivors, Captain Atom attacked him without hesitation. He won the first clash by completely draining Superman’s energy, turning him to dust. The Heart then brought Superman back and gave both heroes the opportunity to transform into different versions of themselves from across time. Captain Atom became the incredibly powerful Monarch, who can control time and reality. Hoping for a different outcome, Superman transformed into Superman Prime One Million, a future version of himself with immense power.

Though both Superman and Captain Atom were incredibly powerful, Superman didn’t want to solve their conflict with a direct fight. When the battle began, he quickly flew towards the sun. Captain Atom pursued, but Superman then extinguished the sun with his super-breath, creating a slowed quantum field that drained their energy. Superman had more energy reserves and managed to endure long enough to win. For the final round, Captain Atom combined his past and future selves into a single, immensely powerful being. Superman, however, chose to fight in his normal form. The final round began, and Captain Atom immediately demonstrated superior strength.

Captain Atom, a powerful and relentless force, began destroying reality as he headed straight for the Heart of Apokolips. When Superman attempted to intervene, Captain Atom attacked him with fragments of time, even using the very explosion that gave him his abilities. However, this backfired spectacularly. Instead of harming Superman, it transferred Captain Atom’s powers to the Man of Steel. Now possessing the same abilities, Superman absorbed Captain Atom’s energy, mirroring what Atom had done to him earlier. Captain Atom desperately tried to rewind time, but Superman destroyed his suit, realizing the tournament was altering them both. As if that weren’t enough, Superman then gained Omega Energy, becoming even more powerful.

Superman of the Atom

Similar to the Omega Sanction, this power-up was temporary, lasting only for the current round, but it had a significant effect. Even though Superman is already incredibly powerful – arguably the strongest superhero – Captain Atom is a real match for him, and some might even say he’s stronger thanks to his unique abilities. Combining Superman’s immense strength with Captain Atom’s control over nuclear energy would create an unbelievably powerful being, instantly making them a top contender on any list of the most powerful heroes. And that’s before even considering the added boost from the Omega Energy he gained by winning the fight.

Even though the power boost might not last, it was really exciting to see Superman use Captain Atom’s abilities. Captain Atom is incredibly powerful but often overlooked, making this moment even cooler. It’s clear DC K.O. is focused on delivering impressive displays of power. Just like the first round with the Omega Sanction, this round let Superman experience something new – Captain Atom’s powers and a surge of Omega Energy – and that energy seems likely to stay with him. What makes this event work so well is the combination of intense action and the characters’ personal challenges – it’s exactly what you want in a comic book fighting tournament.
