DC K.O. Green Lantern Galactic Slam Is A Wrestling Fever Dream (And It Rules) [Review]

Some books just immediately grab your attention – maybe it’s the cover, the characters, or the story idea. And sometimes, those books live up to the hype! That’s how I felt about DC K.O. Green Lantern Galactic Slam #1. It’s a fun tie-in that imagines a DC Universe wrestling league, complete with all the classic wrestling moves and dramatic turns you’d want, and features one of the best Green Lanterns as a key player. Honestly, this book felt like it was made for me, and I highly recommend checking out this wild, wrestling-filled adventure!

Jeremy Adams, Cian Tormey, Pat Boutin, Romulo Fajardo Jr., and Buddy Beaudoin have crafted a delightfully over-the-top story with Green Lantern Galactic Slam. While this adventure works well on its own, it leaves you hoping for more team-ups between Kyle Rayner and Omega-Bam-Man—the incredibly skilled wrestler who first appeared in a Flash story. This installment really kicks things into high gear with a surprising and twisty plot, all while maintaining a playful, self-aware tone that makes it truly special.

PROS CONS
Wrestling fans will adore this, and it’s hard not to see the enthusiasm throughout Will have to wait and see how much this actually affects DC K.O.’s story
Out-of-the-box scenarios bring the best out of Kyle Rayner
Bro Bro is now part of my every day slang

Adams excels at giving each of the Lantern characters a unique and memorable personality, and this is particularly true for the Earth Lanterns, including Rayner. Rayner’s tendency to improvise and learn as he goes is a great source of humor, and the comedic timing in the later parts of the story is spot-on. Moments like Kyle mentioning he’s always wanted a cape – after being stuck in wrestling gear, and then being playfully scolded by a character nicknamed ‘Omega-Bam-Man’ for it – are genuinely funny. This issue was so enjoyable that I’ve already started incorporating some of the slang into my everyday conversations.

The book is filled with a playful sense of humor that really draws you into the creators’ imaginative world of cosmic wrestling – and it’s a visually stunning world, too. The action is intense and raw, but it’s balanced by the knowing, lighthearted tone that wrestling fans love. This balance is perfectly captured in every detail, from wrestlers’ entrances to dramatic betrayals, and it often feels like you should be able to hear the commentary.

The story deserves credit for shifting focus away from the main conflict to explore the origins of Omega-Bam-Man. This could have slowed things down if the character wasn’t engaging, but because readers care about him, the backstory actually builds anticipation. It sets up the final part of the story beautifully, leading to a satisfying conclusion that wraps things up while also leaving the door open for future adventures with the team.

If you’re not into wrestling, DC K.O. Green Lantern Galactic Slam might not appeal to you. But for wrestling fans who also like superheroes, it’s a dream come true!
