I’m really enjoying DC Comics’ current event, but I’m concerned about the direction it’s taking. DC K.O. features a tournament between DC’s most iconic heroes and villains, with the winner gaining the power to become King Omega – a cosmic being capable of reshaping reality. Everyone is competing for this incredible power, hoping to save the universe from destruction by Darkseid. So far, the competition has been fantastic.
Some readers were disappointed with the second issue of DC K.O., as they expected a series of one-on-one battles. Instead, it turned out to be a quest to find the most powerful weapons in the DC Universe. While the issue was enjoyable, some fans felt it didn’t deliver on the initial promise of the series. Now that we’re a few weeks into DC’s “All Fight Month,” I’m starting to worry about something else entirely.
DC K.O.’s Fighters Aren’t Using Their Recently Acquired Weapons, But Why?

Scott Snyder and Javi Fernandez’s DC K.O. #2 was a thrilling read, filled with heroes and villains hunting for powerful items like Thor’s hammer and a Black Lantern Power Ring. While some readers weren’t completely satisfied with the issue, DC Comics followed it up with “All Fight Month,” a series of one-shot comics and related issues that showed all eight battles from the second round of the tournament. After seeing the incredible weapons the fighters had collected, I was excited to see the action unfold.
So, I’ve been following the second round of fights – Superman against Captain Atom, Aquaman versus Hawkman, and Wonder Woman taking on Lobo – and they’ve all been pretty great, especially with the power boosts everyone grabbed last round. But something struck me as I was reading: none of the fighters are actually using the special items they found back in DC K.O. #2. Wonder Woman didn’t wield Thor’s hammer, Lobo wasn’t using Bane’s Venom, and Superman ditched Darkseid’s Omega Sanction. Honestly, when I realized that, I was a little disappointed. It felt like a missed opportunity!
Okay, to be fair, the rules didn’t actually state that found items would carry over to future rounds. What really bothered me was the cover of The Flash #28. It showed Jay Garrick wielding the God Killer sword from DC K.O. #2 while battling Green Lantern Guy Gardner. Seeing that, I assumed the heroes and villains would be able to continue using items they found, and I’m a little disappointed that isn’t happening.
DC K.O. is Missing Out on a Fun Storytelling Opportunity

I’ve read a lot of comics, and I’ve learned that covers often mislead readers. They’re designed to grab your attention and make you want to buy the issue, and that’s been happening for decades. It definitely worked on me – the cover showing Jay with a glowing sword fighting Guy made me want to read it! However, after watching three battles where no one actually used the items they found, I can’t help but think the fights would be much more exciting if they did.
I understand why it’s more compelling to see heroes and villains win based on their own skills rather than just having a powerful object. However, it’s frustrating that Superman received Darkseid’s incredible power in the last issue of DC K.O. and didn’t really get to use it. The fights could have been so much more interesting if they’d incorporated things like Blue Beetle’s Scarab or the Medusa Mask, but instead, we’re left feeling like those opportunities were missed.
I’ve been enjoying the DC K.O. event so far, and I have faith the people making it will finish strong. I did think it would have been interesting to give the heroes even more powerful abilities and see what happened, but I understand they may have different plans. I’m hoping the final part of DC K.O. delivers a satisfying conclusion.
