Fans of Superman are getting excited about his return in a new DC movie! We already have a first look at how Clark Kent will appear, and James Gunn has emphasized how important Superman will be to the future of DC films. This is great news, especially since the previous version of Superman, played by Henry Cavill, didn’t always get the focus he deserved in earlier DC movies.
Henry Cavill’s portrayal of Superman was absent from the franchise for several years. However, David Corenswet’s new Superman is confirmed to appear in at least four DC Universe (DCU) projects over the next four years. He made a brief, silent appearance in the animated series Creature Commandos in 2024 and will star in his own Superman movie in 2025. We’ve already seen him in a trailer for the 2026 Supergirl film, and he’s slated to lead a sequel, Man of Tomorrow, in 2027.
Superman has a lot going on! That’s true not just for the new movie version, but for other versions of the character as well. For example, Jack Quaid, known for The Boys, is set to return as Clark Kent in season 3 of the animated series My Adventures with Superman in 2026.
Fans can also look forward to another animated Superman appearance this year in episode 4 of Krypto Saves the Day! This DC short series came after the 2025 Superman movie, but it’s separate from the main DC Universe storyline. James Gunn is an executive producer on Krypto Saves the Day!, and a sneak peek at Superman’s design for the upcoming episode has been released.

The fourth episode of Krypto Saves the Day!, called “Coastal Catastrophe,” continues the adventures started in earlier shorts – “School Bus Scuffle,” “Halloween Havoc,” and “Package Pandemonium” – all released in 2025. In this new installment of the Superman spinoff animated series, Krypto and Clark head to the beach, and a chaotic situation unfolds, ultimately leading to a classic Superman appearance.
DC fans can look forward to a beach-themed Superman in the next episode of Krypto Saves the Day!, which arrives on HBO Max April 18th. A newly released image shows Clark Kent relaxing in a Hawaiian shirt and blue shorts—colors that echo his traditional Superman suit—along with a cap and flip-flops. He’s not wearing his usual superhero costume.
