As a huge DC fan, I’m really excited about the direction James Gunn is taking things with the new DC Universe! We just got a cool new poster showcasing what looks like the ‘Super-Family‘ – Superman, Supergirl, and all those related heroes. It’s great to see things moving forward with releases in theaters and on HBO Max, and honestly, it makes total sense that they’re focusing on the Kryptonians. They’re some of the most iconic characters from the comics, so it’s a perfect place to start building this new universe with Peter Safran.
DC Comics revealed an official poster for Superman Day 2026, set to be celebrated on Saturday, April 18th. The poster was accompanied by a message highlighting Supergirl, Superman, and Krypto, and the values of hope, justice, and adventure they represent.

The poster features images of Superman, Supergirl, and Krypto the Super-Dog, shown as silhouettes with their capes billowing in the wind. It’s promoting the new Supergirl movie coming to theaters on June 26th from DC Studios.

Milly Alcock will reprise her role as Kara Zor-El in the upcoming DCU series, Supergirl. She’ll be joined by Krypto the Super-Dog, who fans first met in Superman. Kara first appeared in the DCU with a brief scene in the 2025 film Superman, where she was searching for Krypto at the Fortress of Solitude.

Okay, so Alcock’s got the lead in this new space adventure, and honestly, it looks like a blast. The film centers around her character’s 23rd birthday, which she spends traveling to different planets with Krypto – yeah, Superman’s dog! It’s not just a fun trip, though. She meets a young girl named Ruthye, and that encounter kicks off a really compelling story of revenge and self-discovery. Basically, it’s about her finding her footing and becoming a true hero out there amongst the stars. I’m definitely intrigued!

Krypto will be a significant character in the upcoming Supergirl movie. Trailers have already shown him as a puppy in flashback scenes. The film’s villain, Krem of the Hills (played by Matthias Schoenaerts), will attack Krypto, prompting Supergirl to unleash her full power to defend him.

David Corenswet will be playing Clark Kent/Superman in Supergirl as well, though it’s unclear how big his part will be. Trailers reveal he sends a video message to Kara, asking about her return to Earth and expressing his concern for her.

You can watch Superman on HBO Max, along with a cartoon series called Krypto Saves the Day!, which features adventures with Superman’s dog, Krypto.
The Super-Family’s Future in the DC Universe

It’s unclear what’s next for Supergirl in the DC Universe after her own movie, but the future of Kryptonian characters is secure. The first official sequel in the new DC Universe will be Man of Tomorrow in 2027, and it will definitely feature at least one of these heroes. James Gunn wrote and directed the film.
The new movie continues the story of Superman, with David Corenswet reprising his role. It also brings back familiar faces like Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, connecting to the wider DC Universe. This time, Superman and Lex Luthor must work together – surprisingly, as allies – to battle a powerful new enemy named Brainiac, portrayed by Lars Eidinger.
Currently, only Superman: Man of Tomorrow has a confirmed release date among DC Universe films, leaving the future of Superman’s story and other characters from Krypton unclear. Although this could change once Supergirl is released, James Gunn and his team are dedicated to crafting a compelling vision for these iconic heroes.
