DC Reveals a Closer Look at Robin’s New Costume for Batman Series

In preparation for the upcoming DC series of Batman, The Boy Wonder is donning his most elegant attire. Typically, Batman and Robin go hand in hand, and this trend will persist when DC releases a fresh #1 issue of Batman in September. Authors Matt Fraction and artist Jorge Jimenez have grand aspirations for Batman, and these ambitions involve Robin as well. Tim Drake will be joining forces with Bruce Wayne, and since we’ve learned that Tim will don a brand-new Robin suit, we now have a clearer image of it.

Artist Jorge Jimenez, known for his work on Batman, posted concept art of Tim Drake’s revamped Robin costume on social media, writing, “R O B I N. new concept art, the RED is Back to our Tim!! #timdrake” on Instagram. He also encouraged fans to preorder Batman #1 at their local comic shop. The design for Robin includes images of Tim in his new outfit from both the front and back, showcasing the Robin insignia, eye patch, baton, cape, mask, wrist guards, and boots. The updated Robin costume is primarily red with black accents on one side of the cape, mask, wrist guards, and boots.

In October, issue #2 of Batman finds Robin being detained by the Gotham City Police Department. With Robin trapped among the very criminals he and Batman worked tirelessly to imprison, it’s a fight for survival. As Batman scrambles to rescue his partner, time is of the essence to prevent any potential harm from befalling him.

Jorge Jimenez showcases Tim Drake in his revamped Robin suit on both the primary and an alternative cover for issue #2 of Batman. Readers have noted that the costume bears a resemblance to the attire Tim wore during the “One Year Later” storyline. The variant cover for issue #2 likewise showcases Robin performing the same pose as Bruce Wayne did on the first issue, with Robin and his new outfit cast in silhouette against the backdrop of his fluttering yellow cape. Tim Drake is known as the third Robin, following Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. After Jason’s death at the hands of the Joker, Batman left the Robin mantle vacant. However, Tim managed to convince Batman to take him on as a trainee by utilizing his detective abilities to uncover Batman’s secret identity.

In the upcoming comics, Robin, likely to be a significant character, is expected to continue his role in “Batman”, following Matt Fraction and Jorge Jimenez’s relaunch. It’s important to mention that Tim Drake previously held the title of Robin during Jimenez and Chip Zdarsky’s tenure on the series. Additionally, Bruce Wayne’s son, Damian Wayne, is also functioning as Robin. Interestingly, Batman will be sporting a new costume with a lighter shade of blue for his cape, cowl, and chest symbol. Furthermore, a brand-new Batmobile is anticipated in these forthcoming issues.

Fraction said, “I wouldn’t exist as a comic book fan if not for Batman. He was my very first comic.” Jorge and I have a unique perspective on Batman, focusing heavily on superheroes. Our take includes a new Batmobile, new costume, new characters, and a mix of old ones – both good and bad. We aim to honor all aspects of Batman, making him the most iconic character in comics. In other words, we want to pay tribute to everything that makes Batman so awesome.

Jiménez expressed his excitement, saying he’s long imagined this opportunity, and working with someone as gifted as Matt only makes it more awe-inspiring for him. Regarding his work on Batman, artistically speaking, he’s dedicated countless hours to this series. Through the years, he’s had to adjust to various styles and tempos alongside James and Chip, learning and appreciating each phase of the process. He’s delved into Gotham City from numerous perspectives, but what truly matters is the gradual accumulation of artistic skills that have culminated in his current style.
