The latest preview of DC Studios‘ Lanterns introduced a new alien villain. This series is expected to be a major franchise launch for DC Studios in 2026, offering a first glimpse into the world of Green Lantern. As the show gets closer to release, more details about the characters are being revealed.
DC Studios has unveiled the official trailer for its new series, Lanterns, which will premiere on HBO Max in August. The trailer offers the first glimpse of Paul Ben-Victor as Antaan, a well-known alien villain, appearing at the 0:48 mark.

The trailer shows a silent scene with Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan facing off against another character played by Ben-Victor in a visibly damaged restaurant. Another enemy stands behind Ben-Victor, aiming a gun at Jordan.

Reports indicate that actor Ben-Victor will portray Antaan, an alien character determined to reveal the story of his race’s destruction. Because of this role, many fans speculate he’s secretly playing Atrocitus, a significant villain from DC Comics.

Atrocitus is a character in DC Comics and the creator of the Red Lantern Corps. Like the Green Lanterns (characters like Hal Jordan and John Stewart), Red Lanterns can create things with energy, but they’re fueled by anger instead of willpower. This marks the first time the Red Lantern Corps will appear in a live-action DC movie or TV show.
The upcoming series Lanterns will be the first TV show focused on Green Lantern in the newly established DC Universe, guided by DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran. Featuring actors like Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, Nathan Fillion, Ulrich Thomsen, Jason Ritter, and Paul Ben-Victor, the show follows Hal Jordan and John Stewart as they investigate a secret case in Nebraska. During this investigation, Jordan will also mentor Stewart to become a new Green Lantern.
Aliens’ Impact on DC Studios’ Lanterns Show

According to Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern Corps in this version features a surprising variety of members, including even “a squirrel!” While Ben-Victor’s character, Antaan, initially appears human, it looks like he’ll soon be revealed as something far more formidable.
The series will introduce Sinestro, and if the character Antaan is revealed to be Atrocitus, it would create a significant threat for the Green Lanterns, Hal and John. Atrocitus’s powers are fueled by intense rage, making him a formidable and aggressive enemy for Earth.
Details about the new series are mostly secret right now, but the trailer surprised everyone by revealing a strong rivalry between Hal Jordan and John Stewart. It looks like they’ll need to overcome their differences to face a larger danger, which promises plenty of drama across the show’s eight episodes. Ultimately, alien life will play a significant role in the story and how it impacts the Green Lantern Corps in this first adventure set on Earth.
