As a huge DC fan, I have to say that the “Absolute Universe” storyline has completely flipped everything we thought we knew about their superheroes on its head. It’s seriously the darkest take on the DC Multiverse yet! The “Absolute” books have brought massive changes to both heroes *and* villains, and “Absolute Batman” is a prime example. Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta really reimagined Batman, especially his rogues’ gallery. Now, we’re getting a glimpse of “Absolute Joker,” and let me tell you, it’s terrifying – straight out of a nightmare! And surprisingly, it seems like Christopher Nolan’s *The Dark Knight* might actually be part of the reason why this Joker is so twisted.
I was absolutely floored when Zack Snyder revealed the new Joker design for his Absolute Universe! Calling him scary doesn’t even begin to cover it. He’s not just a guy dressed as a clown; he’s a full-on creature. He’s got the classic pale skin, wide mouth, and green hair, but that’s where the resemblance to other Jokers stops. This version looks genuinely demonic, almost like a dragon, and honestly, I think it’s the most intimidating take on the character I’ve ever seen.

A new character will first appear in *Absolute Batman* #15 this December. DC Comics says the issue will reveal the story of a man Alfred has been pursuing for years – and that man is the Joker! The story, by Scott Snyder and Jock, is described as an epic tale within the Absolute Universe.
Absolute Joker Is Pure Nightmare Fuel, But We’ve Seen Hm Before (Sort Of)

As a longtime DC fan and movie critic, this new Joker design definitely caught my eye. While it feels fresh, it also evokes a strong sense of déjà vu, especially for those who loved Heath Ledger’s performance in *The Dark Knight*. There’s a clear visual echo of that iconic Joker card – the pose, the little ‘devil’ tail, even the way the hat is positioned – all reminiscent of Dragotta’s work. It’s a fascinating choice, and it leaves me wondering just how much this Joker will connect to the versions we already know, or if we’re in for something truly wild and unexpected. It’s a promising start, and I’m eager to see where this darker take on the character leads.
The latest look at the Absolute Joker raises questions about his origins. Earlier this year, Zack Snyder hinted this version of the Joker, like the one in the main DC Universe, would be Batman’s opposite – possibly a wealthy billionaire. However, previous glimpses of this Joker suggest a much darker backstory, one that could make his transformation even more disturbing. While early issues of *Absolute Batman* showed him looking relatively human, a later issue revealed he’s undergoing a disturbing process involving blood transfusions from babies. This implies something is fundamentally wrong with him, potentially explaining the experiments and changes seen with other characters in *Absolute Batman*. Or, it could be something even more sinister. Either way, this Joker is far from a laughing matter.
Absolute Batman #15 goes on sale December 10th.
