Death in Paradise spin-off delivers major update on third season – plus returning and new cast confirmed

The BBC has confirmed that filming is officially underway on Return to Paradise season 3.

Following the success of ‘Death in Paradise‘, a spin-off series featuring Detective Sergeant Mackenzie Clarke (Anna Samson) premiered in 2024. The show follows Mackenzie as she juggles personal challenges and investigates various murder mysteries, with a second series airing in 2023.

The BBC announced on Friday, March 27th, as the latest season of Death in Paradise ended, that a new six-episode season of Return to Paradise will be available on BBC iPlayer and BBC One later in the year.

The next season of the show takes place in the made-up Australian seaside town of Dolphin Cove. It begins right after the events of the previous season’s finale, where Clarke dramatically interrupted another wedding of her former fiancé, Glenn (played by Tai Hara).

The series will continue to feature a variety of puzzling murder cases, including one involving an artist killed in public and another where a wildlife worker was found dead inside a locked cassowary enclosure, as described in the official summary.

Clarke will be joined by returning cast members like Lloyd Griffith as Colin Cartwright, Tai Hara as Glenn Strong, Catherine McClements as Philomena Strong, Celia Ireland as Reggie Rocco, and Aaron McGrath as Felix Wilkinson.

I’m excited to see some fresh faces joining the cast! Kerry Armstrong, who I really admired in Lantana, is stepping in as DS Clarke’s incredibly dynamic mother, Jillian. And Jacob Collins, known from The White Princess, will be playing the new pathologist, Leo. Both additions promise to bring some interesting energy to the show.
