Death Stranding Reveals First Anime Movie Trailer

After leaving Konami, game creator Hideo Kojima started his own studio, Kojima Productions. While he’s working on future games like the horror title *O.D.*, his most significant new project is *Death Stranding*. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic world where the player, portrayed by Norman Reedus from *The Walking Dead*, reconnects cities by traveling on foot. Kojima plans to build upon this universe, and a new anime movie demonstrates his interest in exploring different types of media with his game worlds.

While a release date for the new anime movie, *Death Stranding: Mosquito*, hasn’t been announced yet, we’re learning more about this first animated project from Hideo Kojima. The film is being produced by ABC Animation Studio, known for popular series like *Violet Evergarden*, *Darling in the FranXX*, and *Lycoris Recoil*. Hiroshi Miyamoto, who has worked on titles like *Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods* and *Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary*, is directing. Details about the story are still coming, but the movie’s main character certainly lives up to the “Mosquito” title with its unusual appearance, and Norman Reedus may be involved.

Death Stranding’s Future

Earlier this year, *Death Stranding 2: On The Beach* was released, returning players to the unique world created by Hideo Kojima. Although a third game hasn’t been announced, fans will have other ways to experience this universe. A24 is producing a live-action *Death Stranding* movie, and like the upcoming anime film, it won’t be a direct adaptation of the game’s story. During a recent livestream showcasing the film *Mosquito*, director Michael Sarnoski shared details about the plot of his *Death Stranding* movie.

With this project, our goal is to truly capture the essence and core themes of the game, while still offering a fresh story and introducing new characters. We want to do justice to the world on both a large, sweeping scale and through intimate character moments. As for the live-action adaptation, a release date hasn’t been announced yet, but Hideo Kojima and the team will keep fans updated. Given Kojima’s frequent discussions about film and television on social media, it’s natural he’d want to create content for those mediums himself.
