Soon, Netflix subscribers will be able to watch most of the Kung Fu Panda movies. The first film, released in 2008, is a classic from DreamWorks Animation. It tells the story of a panda who, despite being clumsy, dreams of mastering kung fu. He gets an unexpected opportunity to prove himself, but he faces skepticism from skilled warriors and a looming threat to his home.
The main voice cast of the Kung Fu Panda movies includes Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman, Jackie Chan, Lucy Liu, Seth Rogen, David Cross, and James Hong. Kung Fu Panda 2, released in 2011, introduced Gary Oldman as a new villain who challenges Po to learn about his origins while also being defeated. Other notable actors in the series include Ian McShane, Michelle Yeoh, and Bryan Cranston.
According to What’s on Netflix, all three Kung Fu Panda movies – the original, Kung Fu Panda 2, and Kung Fu Panda 3 (released in 2016) – will be available to stream on Netflix starting December 1st. Kung Fu Panda 2 revealed that Po’s biological father and a hidden community of pandas had survived a previous attack, and the third movie continues that story as Po meets his relatives while facing a new, more mystical threat.
Kung Fu Panda 4 was released in 2024, but it won’t be available on Netflix until December 2025. The latest film featured fewer of the original characters, with Awkwafina taking on a new, prominent role. If you didn’t enjoy Kung Fu Panda 4 as much as the earlier movies, you’ll be glad to know that the first three films will soon be available on Netflix, offering a great way to revisit the beginning of the series.
While the Kung Fu Panda movies are still popular and successful, people feel the later films haven’t been as strong as the first two. The original movies received Oscar nominations, but the sequels didn’t. Even the lowest-rated Kung Fu Panda film still has a respectable 71% score on Rotten Tomatoes, proving the franchise remains well-liked.
The Kung Fu Panda films have earned a total of $2.3 billion around the world, making it DreamWorks’ second most successful franchise after Shrek. While a fifth Shrek movie is planned for 2027, it’s unclear if more Kung Fu Panda films will be made. However, fans can still enjoy the Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight spinoff series, which is currently streaming on Netflix.
