December 2025 is wrapping up a fantastic year for film, with exciting releases like a new horror sequel, another SpongeBob adventure, the latest Avatar movie, and a film starring Timothée Chalamet. Throughout 2025, moviegoers enjoyed both highly anticipated sequels and completely original stories.
Moviegoers had a lot to look forward to in November 2025, with new releases like Predator: Badlands, Edgar Wright’s take on The Running Man, a third Now You See Me film, the second Wicked movie, and Zootopia 2 from Disney. December promised a diverse mix of films, including a horror movie featuring creepy, possessed robots, a new installment in the Avatar saga, a fresh reboot of a classic action film, and other exciting titles.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 Will Be Released On December 5, 2025
The highly anticipated follow-up to the 2023 horror film Five Nights at Freddy’s will hit theaters in December. Directed by Emma Tammi, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 picks up a year after the original and brings back familiar faces including Mike (Josh Hutcherson), his sister Abby (Piper Rubio), and police officer Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail).
In Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, Abby meets up with the animatronic characters again, unaware of the full story because Mike hasn’t been honest with her. This encounter revives past terrors and the game also reveals more about the history of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, introducing a cast of new animatronics.
Hamnet

Hamnet is a historical drama film directed by Chloé Zhao, adapted from Maggie O’Farrell’s 2020 novel. The movie focuses on Agnes Shakespeare (played by Jessie Buckley) and William Shakespeare (played by Paul Mescal) and their grief following the death of their young son, Hamnet, from the plague.
The film explores the couple’s grief after the death of their son, Hamnet, and how this loss affected their relationship and ultimately inspired William Shakespeare to write Hamlet. Hamnet had a limited release in theaters on November 26, 2025, and will be widely released on December 5.
Silent Night, Deadly Night

The 2023 film Silent Night, Deadly Night is a remake of the original 1984 movie and the seventh film in the series. It tells the story of Billy Chapman (played by Rohan Campbell), who sees his parents killed by someone dressed as Santa Claus.
This sparks a warped sense of righteousness in Billy, leading him to dedicate his life to terrorizing people during the holidays. He does this by dressing as Santa Claus and committing a series of murders. The film Silent Night, Deadly Night stars Campbell, along with Ruby Modine, March Acheson, David Lawrence Brown, and David Tomlinson.

Ella McCay is a funny and dramatic movie about politics, created by James L. Brooks. The film centers on Ella McCay (played by Emma Mackey), a hopeful 34-year-old who is currently the lieutenant governor. She’s getting ready to become governor when the person who’s been guiding her is offered a job with President Obama.
Ella is facing difficulties both at her new job and in her personal life, as she deals with family issues. The cast of Ella McCay also includes Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Lowden, Woody Harrelson, Rebecca Hall, Ayo Edebiri, and Kumail Nanjiani.

SpongeBob is returning to the big screen in a new movie called The SpongeBob Movie: Search For SquarePants. Directed by Derek Drymon, the film follows SpongeBob, voiced by Tom Kenny, as he tries to show Mr. Krabs (voiced by Clancy Brown) that he’s capable and brave.
In the movie, SpongeBob ventures into the deepest parts of the ocean to track down the Flying Dutchman (Mark Hamill). But the ghostly sailor attempts to use SpongeBob’s pure heart to break his own curse, leading him to take SpongeBob on a journey into the underworld. The SpongeBob Movie: Search For SquarePants is the fourth film in the SpongeBob series.
Avatar: Fire and Ash

I’m so excited to be back in the world of Avatar! The new movie, Avatar: Fire and Ash, is directed by James Cameron, and it feels great to see Jake and Neytiri again – though it’s heartbreaking to see them dealing with the loss of Neteyam. The story introduces this whole new Na’vi tribe, the Mangkwan, who they also call the “Ash People,” and they seem really intense and potentially dangerous.
Varang (Oona Chaplin) leads the clan and has formed an alliance with Jake’s rival, Quaritch (Stephen Lang), intensifying the conflict on Pandora. Avatar: Fire and Ash is the first of three planned Avatar sequels.

I recently watched Is This Thing On?, and it really resonated with me. It’s a funny and heartwarming movie directed by Bradley Cooper about Alex and Tess, a couple who decide to separate after a long time together, but remain friends. The movie beautifully shows how they navigate life apart while still being great parents to their kids. It’s a really relatable story about modern families.
Alex discovers a passion for comedy, which leads to self-discovery and a deeper understanding of his relationships. The film Is This Thing On? also features Bradley Cooper, Andra Day, Sean Hayes, and Peyton Manning.

But Millie’s new life quickly turns into a frightening ordeal when she uncovers hidden, dangerous secrets about the Winchesters. The film The Housemaid also features Michele Morrone, Elizabeth Perkins, Megan Ferguson, and Ellen Tamaki.
Anaconda

Anaconda is a funny and scary action movie that’s also a fresh take on the 1997 film with the same name. Directed by Tom Gormican, the movie centers around friends Griff (Paul Rudd) and Doug (Jack Black), who decide to revisit their past by traveling to the Amazon and making their own version of the original Anaconda movie.
The team’s mission takes a dangerous detour when they encounter a massive anaconda, forcing them to struggle for survival. The movie Anaconda also features performances by Steve Zahn, Thandiwe Newton, Daniela Melchior, and Ione Skye.
Marty Supreme
Marty Supreme Will Be Released On December 25, 2025
Directed by Josh Safdie, Marty Supreme is a funny and heartwarming movie about sports, inspired by the life of table tennis player Marty Reisman. The film is set in 1950s New York City and follows Marty Mauser (Timothée Chalamet), a promising young table tennis player striving to become a champion.
Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Fran Drescher, Kevin O’Leary, Tyler Okonma, Abel Ferrara, and a host of other talented actors also appear in Marty Supreme.
Song Sung Blue
Song Sung Blue Will Be Released On December 25, 2025
Directed by Craig Brewer, Song Sung Blue is a biographical drama inspired by the 2008 documentary of the same name. The film tells the story of Mike (Hugh Jackman) and Claire (Kate Hudson), struggling musicians who decide to team up and perform as a tribute to Neil Diamond. The cast also includes Michael Imperioli, Mustafa Shakir, Jim Belushi, Ella Anderson, and others.
