Demi Engemann is hoping the true colors of her and Bret Engemann’s history finally shines through.

Thirty-one-year-old Ashley, known from the show Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, addressed long-standing rumors about herself and her 47-year-old husband, finally explaining how they first connected.

Demi explained in a recent podcast interview with Bret that she didn’t have an affair with him and that they first met when she was 21 years old, at a mutual friend’s funeral. She clarified they didn’t know each other as children, specifically when she was nine.

However, the 31-year-old went on to take responsibility for the mounting speculation.

“I’m kind of to blame for that,” she explained. “Because it was the satire time of TikTok where people are just going after our age gap relationship. So then we just play into it.”

Bret joked that the age difference between him and the person he was referring to seemed to grow smaller with time.

As Demi pointed out, the rumors really took off when fans began suggesting Bret had been a part of her life in different ways even before they became romantically involved.

She explained that the rumors started because he used to babysit her and then became close friends with her parents. She admitted she was the one who initially shared the story, and it just grew from there.

She admitted they could have met before the funeral of a shared friend in 2017, but they never actually did.
