2026 isn’t shaping up to be as big a year for Demon Slayer fans as last year was. The anime is consistently popular, and the first movie in the Infinity Castle trilogy broke records, becoming the highest-grossing anime film ever with over 100 billion yen earned worldwide. While fans are eager for the second and third movies, they won’t be released for some time. The first film, released in Japan in July 2025 (and internationally in September), is still being shown in Japanese theaters months later, with special screenings held regularly.
The popular anime Demon Slayer will have a special screening event in ten Japanese theaters on January 24, 2025, where fans are encouraged to cheer and show their support for the characters. Attendees are welcome to bring fan merchandise like glow sticks and penlights. This event is designed for enthusiastic participation, so it might not be ideal for those who prefer a quiet viewing experience – organizers advise checking the guidelines before purchasing tickets. However, continuing to hold these theatrical screenings may delay the anime’s release on streaming platforms.
Demon Slayer Might Unveil New Information in AnimeJapan 2026

Japan frequently shows the movie in theaters, but it’s not yet available in Western countries, leaving fans eager for streaming news. Although it will likely appear on platforms like Crunchyroll and Netflix eventually, neither service has confirmed a release date. Based on how long the theatrical screenings are continuing, it seems the anime won’t be available to stream for a while longer.
I’m hearing there will be some big anime news coming out of AnimeJapan this year. The event is scheduled for March 28th and 29th, 2026, at Tokyo Big Sight. It sounds like over 120 companies will be there, including major players like Aniplex, KADOKAWA, TOHO animation, and Bandai Namco Filmworks – they’re all promising to share details about what they’ve been working on.
Fans can also look forward to Demon Slayer news at the event, likely including updates on the next parts of the movie. The first part of the film delivered some of the most thrilling battles seen in the anime yet, and the stakes will continue to rise. The Demon Slayers still need to defeat three powerful Upper Rank demons, including the strongest, Upper Rank One and Two. These battles will take place in the Infinity Castle Arc, leading to a final showdown against Muzan Kibutsuji in the Sunrise Countdown arc, which will conclude the story.
