Bungie has shared a new trailer and behind-the-scenes documentary for the upcoming Destiny 2: Renegades expansion, which draws inspiration from Star Wars. The expansion is set to launch on December 2nd.
Here are the latest details:
The team behind Destiny 2 recently held a live stream to showcase the upcoming Renegades expansion, which is part of the Year of Prophecy and created in partnership with Lucasfilm Games, drawing inspiration from Star Wars. Ahead of the December 2, 2025 release, they unveiled the official launch trailer for Destiny 2: Renegades and a new behind-the-scenes video, “Making of a Renegade,” detailing how they collaborated with Lucasfilm Games to create a fresh Destiny 2 experience with a clear nod to the Star Wars universe.
The Renegades update brings a variety of new weapons and equipment to the game, including the Praxic Blade, a unique Exotic Sword inspired by lightsabers. This sword can be customized in ways that change how you play, and you can also earn cosmetic items to change its color. The update also introduces Blasters, a brand new type of weapon that uses a heat system instead of traditional magazines for firing and reloading.
New Exotics arriving with Renegades include:
- Kinetic Sword – Praxic Blade (inspired by lightsabers)
- Solar Crossbow – Heirloom (inspired by Chewbacca’s iconic weapon)
- Strand Machine Gun – Service of Luzaku
- Warlock Helmet – Deimosuffusion
- Hunter Legs – Fortune’s Favor
- Titan Chest – Praxic Vestment
During the live stream, the team behind Destiny 2 showed off the new Lawless Frontier activity, which is built to be played again and again with challenges that can be adjusted to different skill levels. In this new update, players become Renegades and earn reputation with various criminal groups through a system called Notoriety. They’ll complete missions—either solo or with a team of three—given by three different factions.
- The Pikers – An anarchist and atheist biker gang of Eliksni seeking to build a society free from traditional ranks and hierarchy.
- Tharsis Reformation – A breakaway sect of sentient Vex, driven by a desire to experience personal identity outside the Vex collective.
- Totality Division – A rogue branch of the Barant Imperium Cabal, operating as a Syndicate on Mars and ruled by psions.

Players can now take on different types of jobs, like smuggling valuable items between bases, hunting down specific targets, or sabotaging enemy locations. The update, called Lawless Frontier, adds new areas to explore on Mars, Europa, and Venus, with new paths and battlegrounds. It also introduces a new optional game mode called Invasion, where players can enter the game as a disruptor and earn special rewards.
Renegade Abilities give Guardians special powers in the Lawless Frontier mode, letting them change how fights play out. Players can unlock, improve, and use a variety of abilities – both offensive, defensive, and supportive – to become more effective in battle and better suit their playstyle.
Okay, so mark your calendars! The new dungeon, Equilibrium, drops on December 13th, 2025, at 9 AM Pacific Time / 12 PM Eastern. I’m planning to watch the official dungeon race stream with Evanf1997 and CBGray – it starts at 6 AM Pacific / 9 AM Eastern with a pre-show, and they’ll keep going until the race is finished. If you want to know more about the race itself, check out the latest ‘This Week in Destiny’ blog. And if you’re thinking of competing, definitely head over to Bungie’s official rules to make sure you meet all the requirements.
