Great news for fans: Dexter: Resurrection is on the way! It’s amazing to think we’re still discussing new Dexter seasons almost 20 years after the original series began. Dexter was a huge hit for Showtime throughout the late 2000s and early 2010s, arguably their most popular show ever. However, many viewers were disappointed with the original ending, and they wanted more. A revival depended on finding a compelling story for Michael C. Hall to return, and that finally happened nearly ten years later with Dexter: New Blood.
The finale of *New Blood* sparked controversy, but offered a clear conclusion. Despite this, fans still campaigned for more episodes, even though it didn’t make much sense. Surprisingly, *Dexter: Resurrection* brought Michael C. Hall back as the iconic serial killer. Unlike previous installments, this wasn’t intended as a short, one-time revival; plans were in place for at least three seasons, and potentially more if it proved successful. For a while, a second season seemed certain, given how valuable the *Dexter* franchise is to Paramount. However, the unexpected cancellation of *Dexter: Original Sin* – even after the cast and crew had been approved for another season – left fans concerned about the future of the series.
Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Is Moving Forward
Great news for fans! Dexter: Resurrection has been officially renewed for a second season. Michael C. Hall shared the confirmation on the show’s social media, thanking viewers for their support. While rumors had been circulating – and a writer’s room was even scheduled to begin in October – those plans were unfortunately halted by the cancellation of Original Sin.
Unlike with the first season of *Original Sin*, Paramount hasn’t officially announced a second season to the general public – it was only mentioned in industry reports. This new announcement for *Dexter: Resurrection* Season 2 is a formal confirmation, which should reassure fans that it’s happening. The new season is expected to arrive next fall, but filming won’t begin until spring and summer, meaning it won’t be released around the same time as the first season.
It’s currently unclear where the second season of *Dexter: Resurrection* will head. Dexter now has files on several serial killers, suggesting he might pursue them. Following Batista’s death, it’s also possible Joey Quinn will travel to New York, but we’ll have to wait to find out what happens.
