Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Will Bring Back a Fan-Favorite Tradition Last Seen 13 Years Ago

Season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection is bringing back a key element that was missed after the original series finished. Even though Dexter was a very dark and violent show, it remained popular because it still managed to be entertaining, even when dealing with terrible events. A big part of that was Dexter Morgan himself – fans connected with his sense of humor, no matter how twisted. He always had a witty inner monologue, making jokes about dangerous situations and voicing the thoughts that others would never admit.

Okay, let me tell you about Dexter: Resurrection. It definitely doubled down on the over-the-top nature of the whole premise, which, honestly, after everything that happened in the original series, felt…necessary. I mean, we’re talking about a middle-aged serial killer who should have died from a gunshot wound, but thanks to some seriously strong plot armor, he’s back for another go-round. And the storyline? He infiltrates a club of fellow killers and starts taking them out. It’s completely ridiculous, and frankly, I found it kind of charming. But, and this is a big but, Resurrection just didn’t have that special something that made the original series so compelling. Something was missing.

Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Will Bring Back Dexter’s Morning Routine

The original show famously started each episode with a sequence known as Dexter’s morning routine. It showed him waking up, swatting a mosquito, and going through his daily preparations – shaving, flossing, and getting dressed – before eating breakfast. This sequence was set to surprisingly cheerful music, but juxtaposed with images of violence. It was a way of highlighting how even everyday actions, like squeezing fruit or tying shoes, can have a hidden edge.

As a big Dexter fan, I was really bummed when the iconic morning routine disappeared in both New Blood and Resurrection. I get why it was missing in Resurrection Season 1 – Dexter was completely rebuilding his life! But those seasons just had these quick, changing intros instead, like the ice cracking with blood in New Blood. Thankfully, showrunner Clyde Phillips hinted on the Love It Film podcast (as reported by Dexter Daily) that the morning routine is coming back in Resurrection Season 2, and I couldn’t be happier!

“Don’t be surprised if you see it again next year,” said Phillips with a smile.

Dexter’s morning ritual was briefly shown in the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin, but we haven’t seen Michael C. Hall’s version of the character consistently follow one. Now that Dexter has a more stable life – with his son, a home, and a job – it feels right that he’s establishing a new routine. It’s unclear if this will be a lasting part of the show, or just a one-time nod to the past to start Season 2.

The second season of Dexter: Resurrection is likely to premiere in October or November of next year. Filming is currently underway throughout the spring and summer, and director Marcos Siega anticipates being in post-production around those same months. The first season was completed very close to its premiere date – only a week or two before the first episodes aired. While details are scarce, the new season will involve the infamous New York Ripper in some way.
