Despite the cancellation of Dexter: Original Sin, Dexter: Resurrection has been renewed for a second season. The show received the green light in October, shortly after the first season concluded, and its finale left viewers with several unanswered questions. However, fans will have to wait a while for new episodes, as the showrunner recently announced a surprisingly late start date for filming.
The revival of Dexter, titled Dexter: Resurrection, quickly became popular after debuting on Paramount+ this summer. This success, combined with the merger between Paramount Global and Skydance, led the company to prioritize another season of Resurrection over a planned prequel series. It wasn’t long before the renewal was confirmed. According to Clyde Phillips, the executive producer and showrunner, who shared the information on The Dark Passengers: A Dexter Podcast, the writing team now needs time to finish the scripts.
Roughly five months.
The writing for the new season began on October 6th and is expected to continue until March 2026, if everything goes according to plan. Filming will start on April 13th. While there’s no official premiere date yet, the second season likely won’t be available until 2027, although a late 2026 release isn’t impossible.
Despite the successful premiere of Dexter: Resurrection, it’s surprising that filming is taking so long to begin. While writing scripts takes time, fans were hoping production would move more quickly, especially after the exciting Season 1 finale. The delay is disappointing for those eager to see what happens next in the story.
Even popular shows sometimes take a while to return, but things are looking good for Dexter: Resurrection. Filming might even begin before April 13th! Whatever the wait, Season 2 promises to be worth it, even if it’s a long one. The good news is the writing team has already been working for over a month, so production is officially underway.

It’s frustrating the new season is taking a while to film, but it probably means they’re really focusing on making Season 2 amazing. Hopefully, time will fly by once the holidays arrive and we won’t have to wait much longer.
