Diane Keaton’s daughter is reflecting on the best parts about her mom.
More than six months after her mother, Diane, passed away, Dexter Keaton White, whom Diane adopted in 1996, shared a heartfelt Mother’s Day post about what she misses most.
It just hit me so hard – Mother’s Day without her. I saw Dexter’s post from May 10th, and honestly, it broke me all over again. He said he misses her more than words can even describe, and I feel that so deeply. He’s right, it’s not just one thing…it’s her voice, those amazing hugs, just having her around, everything that made a house feel like home. It’s just…everything.
Dexter shared a slideshow of heartwarming photos with his mom, and wrote, “I love you mom.”
Dexter, who married Jordan White in 2021, then shared the post on her Instagram Story, adding another thing she particularly loves about the actress from Book Club.
“I miss smiling with you,” she wrote. “I just miss you mom.”
Dexter recently shared a heartfelt message, coming about six months after her mother, Diane, passed away at the age of 79 from pneumonia. Since then, Dexter and her brother, Duke—who Diane adopted in 2001—have shared that they each got a tattoo as a tribute to her.
On January 5th, Dexter publicly thanked the tattoo artist for creating a permanent tribute to his mother.
Dexter shared a photo showing off her new tattoo, which is a reference to Diane Keaton’s character, “La Di Da,” in the movie Annie Hall.
Meanwhile, Duke also referenced the film with his tattoo that reads, “Weird old world.”
Over the years, Diane, who became a mom in her 50s, was open about her love for single motherhood.

Diane told Ladies’ Home Journal in 2008 that becoming a mother wasn’t something she had to do. It was something she’d considered for years, and eventually, she decided to go for it.
Diane said that while she’d always envisioned having a committed, meaningful relationship before becoming a mother, adopting her child was the most fulfilling thing she’s ever done.
She told Entertainment Tonight in 2007 that it completely transformed her outlook. ‘It gives your life meaning,’ she explained.
