Diane Kruger Shares Rare Update on Her & Norman Reedus’ Daughter Nova

When it comes to acting, Diane Kruger‘s daughter Nova has become her North Star.

These days, the actress is much more thoughtful about the roles she chooses, thanks to her 6-year-old child, whom she shares with her partner, Norman Reedus.

As a mom, I always get asked how I’m raising my daughter in today’s world, and honestly, I don’t feel like I can teach her everything she needs to know. I really believe in leading by example. My own upbringing was so different from what she’ll experience, and she’s going to have advantages I didn’t. There are things I had to navigate that I would never want her to face, and I’m committed to protecting her from those things.

Joining the cast of HBO Max’s The Seduction was an easy decision for her. The show is a fresh take on the 1988 classic Dangerous Liaisons, and she plays Madame de Rosemonde. The 49-year-old actress describes her character as a groundbreaking woman who chose to live life on her own terms, much like a man would.

During an interview with her co-star Anamaria Vartolomei, Diane described her character as someone who skillfully maneuvered within a system historically created by and for men. She expressed her enjoyment of portraying the character’s inner anger – her desire to break down barriers and inspire the next generation to go even further.

She continued, “That was, for me, the fun and the reason why I wanted to be part of it.”

And Diane aims to pass on her character’s relentless spirit to her daughter.

“Hopefully,” she shared, “she’ll watch this one day and be like, ‘You kicked ass, Mom.'”

According to actor Justin Bartha, his daughter Nova is already developing a strong personality. She wasn’t shy about sharing her opinion when she saw what her mother was wearing while filming The Seduction.

Diane recounted how her child, seeing her in costume, playfully said, ‘You look like you’re from a really old time, Mom—it makes you look old!’ She added with a laugh that it was a good reminder of how time passes.

The Seduction premieres on HBO Max Nov. 14.
