Digimon Fans Hoping to See Next Major RPG After Time Stranger Just Got a Promising Update

Digimon fans hadn’t seen a major video game release in a while before Digimon Story: Time Stranger came out in 2025. While Digimon Survive (a visual novel) launched in 2022, most other games were either limited to certain regions or were mobile titles. Time Stranger was highly anticipated, and its initial sales proved that. Since then, excitement has continued to build with announcements of two new Digimon mobile games planned for worldwide release in 2026, giving fans a lot to look forward to.

Mobile games are a mixed bag for fans. While it’s great to be able to play favorite franchises on phones, many mobile games rely too heavily on in-app purchases. This makes Digimon fans hesitant about mobile RPGs like Digimon Up. However, a recent financial report from Toei Animation, the company that owns Digimon, suggests we might see more traditional Digimon Story games – and possibly even other popular titles like Digimon World – released in the future.

Digimon’s Global Sales Prove The Market for Another Major Game Release

Now that the first three months of 2026 are over, game companies are sharing how much money they’ve made. These reports are mostly for investors, but they can also give fans hints about what’s coming. For Digimon fans, Toei Animation’s latest report is especially exciting, suggesting that the Digimon mobile games planned for this year might be the start of a much bigger comeback for Digimon video games.

Toei’s recent report looks at sales up to late 2025 and previews projects for early 2026. It shows Digimon is now one of Toei Animation’s top four properties for international licensing, meaning it’s performing well outside of Japan, especially after a major new game release. While still behind hugely popular anime like Dragon Ball and One Piece, Digimon’s sales figures – which include all international licensing, not just the Time Stranger series – demonstrate growing interest in the franchise. Earnings for the first half of 2026 are expected to be significantly higher than in 2024 and 2025.

Interestingly, Digimon Story: Time Stranger is performing so well overseas that Toei, the company behind Digimon, lists it alongside the hugely popular One Piece trading card game as a top licensed product. This suggests Toei is already planning how to capitalize on Digimon’s growing international popularity. While the company hasn’t revealed many details about future projects, the new Digimon Beatbreak anime is highlighted as a key property they plan to focus on. This could mean we’ll see major new video games connected to the anime, potentially another RPG like Time Stranger that’s released on multiple platforms to build on its success.

Currently, Digimon Alysion and Digimon Up are the only new Digimon video games announced. Both are designed for mobile devices and are scheduled to launch in 2026. This leaves plenty of opportunity for future Digimon games in 2027 and beyond, and it seems likely that any new titles will be released globally.
