Fans of Dino Crisis have been eagerly requesting a new game for quite some time, and Capcom has taken notice. While this hasn’t led to a remake or a sequel as of yet, Capcom hasn’t forgotten about the franchise. To demonstrate their continued interest, they are launching a new merchandise line in Japan. This discovery was made through posters at ResetEra. The Dino Crisis merchandise includes items like clothing, keychains, acrylic stands, and even desk mats, with offerings available for all three games in the series, including the one that isn’t as popular.
It appears that Capcom is giving special treatment to the Mega Man X series, as noted by discussions on ResetEra and social media. This isn’t common practice for all of Capcom’s games, and it follows multiple surveys where the publisher asked participants about a potential return for this series. However, there’s a catch: the merchandise is part of a lottery system, so you don’t know exactly what items you’ll receive. Additionally, the merchandise is currently only available in Japan, which makes it difficult for fans outside of Japan to participate and show their support.
It’s plausible to think that Capcom might be pondering over a revival for the Dino Crisis series, given their recent focus on surveys and new merchandise. It’s been over two decades since the last game in the series, but there remains a dedicated fanbase eager for new content. A potential solution could be a remake of the first game utilizing Capcom’s RE engine, similar to how they handled the remake of Resident Evil 2. However, given the lengthy silence from the franchise, it’s possible that Capcom is cautious about investing heavily in a property that has been dormant for so long. As such, they seem to be gauging fan interest to ensure there is indeed a demand for a comeback.
Capcom boasts a large collection of popular franchises, some of which haven’t seen a new release for quite some time. Dino Crisis isn’t an exception to this; Mega Man hasn’t had a fresh game since 2018, and he’s almost synonymous with the company! With its core idea, it seems like the perfect opportunity for a comeback. A survival horror game featuring dinosaurs offers a wide-ranging appeal that could attract those who missed out on the originals (or weren’t born yet).
At present, Dino Crisis enthusiasts can only look forward to whatever tidbits Capcom decides to offer; given that it’s been 22 years since the last installment, any new merchandise is far more than usual for this series. This suggests that Capcom hasn’t abandoned Dino Crisis, which is a positive indication. If Nintendo were to similarly revive Eternal Darkness after so long, it would indeed be unexpected. Here’s hoping these developments lead to something much more substantial in the future.
