Disney+ just released a new video offering fans a sneak peek at Avengers: Doomsday. This upcoming Marvel movie is set to be a huge, universe-spanning adventure and will wrap up many storylines from the current phase of Marvel films. Because of all the connected stories, viewers might want to brush up on previous films to fully appreciate the new movie.
When the multiverse-spanning Doomsday event arrives, the recommended viewing list will be massive. It’s guaranteed to feature the complete Infinity Saga, plus everything released since then – including the X-Men films from Fox and potentially even more content.
Marvel Studios is helping to build excitement for the upcoming film with promotional material like its recent Doomsday trailer. This new Avengers: Doomsday video was first released online in Japan and shared on X (formerly Twitter) by the Avengers Updates account.
This isn’t a typical movie trailer, like the four short previews released recently. Instead, it’s a montage of clips from the entire franchise. While it includes many iconic moments from the Infinity Saga, it also highlights several movies and shows released after Avengers: Endgame that viewers should check out.
The trailer starts with familiar scenes from classic Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, then quickly moves into what happens after the ‘Infinity Saga’. It ends with the announcement that ‘The Avengers are returning in 2026’, hinting at a major superhero event coming soon.
The next Avengers movie, titled Avengers: Doomsday, is scheduled to come out on December 18, 2026. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the film will feature the Avengers teaming up with heroes from different universes to face a new villain: Doctor Doom, who will be played by Robert Downey Jr.
Every Movie and TV Show Marvel Has Highlighted Ahead of Avengers: Doomsday
Loki

The initial hint of upcoming projects points to Disney+’s Loki. This popular series, which aired for two seasons between 2021 and 2023, followed a different version of Tom Hiddleston’s Loki as he traveled through time after the events of Avengers: Endgame.
Ultimately, this led to Loki, the Asgardian trickster, shouldering the responsibility of the entire Multiverse. He transformed into the God of Stories, a powerful entity tasked with preserving the stability of the Sacred Timeline from a realm beyond our own.
With Loki’s current job in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s clear he’ll likely be involved in Avengers: Doomsday. The movie’s story focuses on destroying the Multiverse, which is now Loki’s responsibility to safeguard. You can find more details about Loki’s role in Avengers: Doomsday here.
Fantastic Four: First Steps

It’s been a while since the Avengers last teamed up in a movie, and since then, Marvel has brought several popular comic book groups into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The most notable of these new teams is likely the Fantastic Four.
As a huge Marvel fan, I was so excited to finally see the Fantastic Four get the proper MCU treatment last summer with Fantastic Four: First Steps. And it looks like that movie wasn’t just a fun introduction to the team – several things they set up in First Steps are already going to be important in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday! It’s great to see how everything is starting to connect.
A key moment in the story was the debut of Franklin Richards, the incredibly powerful child of Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman. The ending of First Steps hinted that Doctor Doom, the main villain, might have kidnapped him, which sets the stage for a team-up movie featuring Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben.
Captain America: Brave New World

Each Avengers movie centers around one Avenger who leads the team. In Avengers: Doomsday, Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson will take on that role for the first time.
Since last appearing in an Avengers film, Sam Wilson has become the new Captain America and will star in his own movie, Captain America: Brave New World.
Though the previous film didn’t hint at the multiple universes that will be central to the Doomsday story, it did introduce an important character. Now that Chris Evans’ Captain America is retired, Sam Wilson will have to build a new team of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and face a danger more significant than any he’s encountered before.
Thunderbolts

I’m really excited about Sam Wilson taking the lead as the new Avengers leader in that big Marvel movie coming out in 2026, and it sounds like a big part of that will be introducing another team – the Thunderbolts! It’s going to be interesting to see how they all fit together.
The team, featuring Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, first appeared in the 2025 movie Thunderbolts. By the end of the film, they had become known as the New Avengers.
At the end of the movie, viewers saw a powerful spaceship arrive in our universe (Earth-616) with a large Fantastic Four logo on it. This scene, it turns out, is directly taken from the comic book story Avengers: Doomsday.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Simu Liu’s character, Shang-Chi, has been hoping to join the Avengers for nearly five years, and now it’s finally going to happen.
Shang-Chi, the skilled Marvel hero and martial artist, was one of the first characters to receive a dedicated origin story film as part of the Multiverse Saga. However, since his movie, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, he hasn’t appeared in any other major Marvel films or stories.
But things are about to shift. Many fans will recall that Liu’s character joined the Avengers at the end of his own film, hinting at a mysterious signal from another reality and its connection to Shang-Chi and his unique rings.
Wakanda Forever

The Disney+ promo for Avengers: Doomsday ended with a title card for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Ryan Coogler’s second Marvel movie continued the story of the first Black Panther film while also introducing the next hero to protect Wakanda.
I was so moved by how Letitia Wright stepped up as Shuri after the heartbreaking loss of Chadwick Boseman. It meant so much to see her carry on her brother T’Challa’s legacy in Wakanda Forever. And now, I’m incredibly excited to see her join the Avengers in Doomsday, taking her place among Earth’s mightiest heroes, just as Chadwick did before her. It feels like a beautiful continuation of his work.
But she won’t be the only new face. Wakanda Forever also revealed Tenoch Huerta as Namor and the Talokanil, an underwater civilization, and they were a major focus of one of the four trailers released for Doomsday.
