Disney Continues to Tease Tangled Broadway Musical

I’m hearing some exciting news for fans of Tangled! Disney seems to be strongly suggesting that, beyond a live-action film, they’re planning to bring Rapunzel’s story to the Broadway stage. It looks like we might be seeing a Tangled musical in the future, and honestly, I’m already excited!

Recent shows at the 2026 EPCOT International Festival of the Arts, along with comments from people in the theater world, have sparked speculation that Disney might create a stage version of Tangled. However, Disney hasn’t officially confirmed any plans. During the festival, which took place from January 16 to February 23, 2026, Disney on Broadway showcased concerts featuring songs from its animated movies.

Broadway stars Susan Egan and James Monroe Iglehart recently performed “Mother Knows Best” from Disney’s 2010 film Tangled at EPCOT in Florida. A video of their performance was posted on social media by Disney’s Broadway account and has been widely shared online.

The Performance at EPCOT

Egan performed Mother Gothel’s song, while Iglehart hilariously pretended to mouth the words “help me” to the viewers. Disney shared the video on Instagram, and you can watch it below.

Susan Egan is famous for being the first to play Belle in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast on Broadway, and she also voiced Megara in the animated movie Hercules. James Monroe Iglehart won a Tony Award for playing the Genie in Aladdin, and he’s appeared in other Broadway hits like Chicago and Hamilton. He’s also done voice work, including the role of Lance Strongbow in Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure. Both Egan and Iglehart are well-known and respected theater performers.

Other Teases

Earlier in the festival, on February 13th, I was really excited to see Ashley Brown, who’s a Broadway performer, sing “When Will My Life Begin?” – another fantastic song from the original movie. Before she started, she shared a little bit about the song, which I always appreciate.

Disney is constantly working on new stage shows, always looking through their huge library of stories for the next big hit. While it’s hard to say what that next show will be, I can share a little hint: think about a princess stuck in a tower, passing the time with books and art.

Back in 2024, BroadwayWorld reported that a stage adaptation of Tangled was being considered. Recent performances at EPCOT have renewed fan hopes for a Broadway show, but simply considering a production and actually confirming it are two separate steps.

Context

Disney released the animated movie Tangled in 2010. It’s a fresh take on the classic fairy tale Rapunzel, featuring original songs by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater. The film was a box office success and continues to be a popular Disney classic.

As a huge Disney fan, I always get excited about the Disney on Broadway concerts – especially the ones at EPCOT! They’re amazing because they bring together performers from all the different Disney stage shows. It’s a fantastic way to celebrate the music from both the films we love and the incredible talent behind the Broadway adaptations. Basically, it’s a celebration of everything Disney!

The story and songs from Disney’s Tangled would work well as a stage musical, and performances by Broadway actors singing the film’s songs have kept people talking about the possibility.

Disney’s involvement with Broadway has changed a lot depending on the specific movie. Some of their animated films have become full-fledged Broadway shows, but others haven’t, even if there was some initial interest or related performances. Disney usually doesn’t announce a Broadway show until it’s well into the planning stages.

Until Disney officially announces a stage version of Tangled, any news comes from what actors have said or performances they’ve given. People who follow theater and Disney news are keeping an eye out for more information.
