Disney has announced its 11 most important upcoming movies, planned for release in the next two years. As a major Hollywood studio – thanks to owning Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and 20th Century Fox – Disney has many projects in development, but these 11 are the top priorities.
At Disney’s recent shareholder meeting on March 18th, new CEO Josh D’Amaro talked about what’s ahead for the studio, specifically highlighting major movie releases planned for 2026 and 2027. While he didn’t reveal everything in development, he did share details about the biggest films coming to theaters.
Disney’s Biggest 2026 Movie Releases
Hoppers

Pixar’s newest film, Hoppers, came out in theaters on March 6th and is proving to be a success, breaking a recent pattern of their original movies not performing well in ticket sales.
This movie is a lighthearted and imaginative story about switching bodies. It follows Mabel, an animal lover, who uses technology to transfer her mind into a beaver in an effort to protect her town’s dam.
Toy Story 5

Disney is anticipating that Toy Story 5 will be a major hit, and a sneak peek was shown to investors recently. The Toy Story series is Pixar’s oldest and most successful franchise, consistently performing well at the box office since its debut in 1995. The fifth installment, scheduled for release on June 19, 2026, will explore the conflict between toys and technology. Beloved characters like Woody, Buzz, and Jessie will return, facing a new challenge from a character named Lilypad.
The Devil Wears Prada 2

After 20 years, a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada is hitting theaters, and experts believe it will be a major success for Disney. The new film brings back Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep, and Stanley Tucci, reprising their roles in the fast-paced world of fashion journalism. The trailer has sparked curiosity about what’s happened with these characters, and fans will find out when the movie premieres on May 1st.
The Mandalorian and Grogu

As a huge Star Wars fan, I’ve been really looking forward to The Mandalorian & Grogu – it’s the first big movie we’ve gotten since The Rise of Skywalker. Honestly, it feels like a real test for the franchise. Can a live-action TV show actually launch a successful, big-budget movie now? I’m eager to find out if it can bridge that gap and deliver something truly special.
Continuing the story from the popular Disney+ series, The Mandalorian & Grogu follows Pedro Pascal as the Mandalorian and his adorable companion, Grogu, on a brand new journey across the galaxy. It will be available on May 22nd.
Moana (Live-Action)

Disney continues to remake its animated classics into live-action films, and their latest project is a version of the popular 2016 musical, Moana. Catherine Laga’aia will star as Moana, and Dwayne Johnson is returning to play Maui.
Following the huge success of Moana 2 in 2024, everyone is now watching to see if the upcoming live-action Moana, releasing on July 10th, can achieve similar box office results.
Avengers: Doomsday

Disney plans to conclude 2026 with what’s expected to be their largest Marvel Studios film since the blockbuster hit Avengers: Endgame. Titled Avengers: Doomsday, the movie will kick off the final phase of the Multiverse Saga and reunites the original directing duo Anthony and Joe Russo with returning stars Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom and Chris Evans.
After four trailers were shown during the holidays, fans are excited for Avengers: Doomsday to come out on December 18th.
What Disney Movies Are Missing?
During a recent discussion, D’Amaro mentioned just a few of Disney’s planned movies for 2026 and couldn’t share details about everything the studio is working on for the next nine months.
Disney Animation’s upcoming original film, Hexed, which is scheduled for release on November 25th, wasn’t featured. Not much has been revealed about the movie yet, but it’s about a quirky teenager and his overachieving mother who find themselves in a magical world.
The studio is planning sequels to films like Ready or Not 2: Here I Come and Super Troopers 3 for 2026, but these aren’t major releases that define the studio’s brand, so it’s understandable they weren’t highlighted.
Disney’s Biggest 2027 Movie Releases
Star Wars: Starfighter

As a huge Star Wars fan, I’m already getting excited for what Disney has planned! In 2027, we’re getting a new movie starring Ryan Gosling – it’s called Star Wars: Starfighter and comes out May 28th. Details are still pretty secret, but we know Gosling will be joined by Flynn Gray, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, and Aaron Pierre. The biggest surprise? Tom Cruise is somehow involved, which is incredibly exciting!
Frozen 3

The movie Frozen has become incredibly popular around the world, so it’s not surprising that Disney is making two more films. The first sequel, Frozen 3, is scheduled to come out on November 24, 2027, and will feature the return of familiar characters and new, catchy songs.
Bluey Movie

The popular Australian children’s show, Bluey, has become incredibly popular since it started streaming on Disney+. The show, which follows the adventures of a young Blue Heeler pup and her family, has delighted viewers worldwide. While there aren’t any plans for a fourth season of Bluey yet, a Bluey movie is currently in development.
If the Bluey movie performs as well in theaters as the show does on streaming platforms, Disney is likely to have another big success when it’s released on August 6, 2027.
Ice Age: Boiling Point

After Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, the popular Ice Age movies became part of the Disney family. While the last Ice Age film, Ice Age: Collision Course, came out over a decade ago, fans can look forward to the return of Manny, Sid, Diego, Ellie, and Scrat in Ice Age: Boiling Point in February 2027. This new movie will see the prehistoric animals facing the challenge of a quickly warming world.
Simpsons 2

After nearly 20 years, Disney is set to release a sequel to The Simpsons movie. The popular cartoon family has been on television for 37 years, but they’ve only had one full-length film in theaters. The Simpsons 2 is now officially in production at 20th Century Studios and is scheduled to come out on September 3, 2027.
What Disney Movies Are Missing?
Once again, Disney’s shareholder presentation didn’t mention every 2027 film.
It was surprising to see Avengers: Secret Wars not included in the recent release schedule, especially since it’s expected to be the biggest Marvel Cinematic Universe movie yet. Currently planned for December 17, 2027, the film will continue the story from Avengers: Doomsday and conclude the MCU’s Multiverse Saga.
Disney didn’t mention Gatto, their upcoming original animated film about a cat that looks remarkably familiar. Currently planned for release on March 5, 2027, Gatto isn’t based on any existing franchise, which is likely why it wasn’t featured in the presentation.
