As a huge anime and horror fan, I’ve always felt horror doesn’t get enough love in the anime world – we at egmr.ru have been championing it for years! We’ve seen a lot of Junji Ito get adapted, which is great, but so many other fantastic horror manga have been overlooked. That’s why I’m so excited about the news that Disney+ is making a live-action anime out of a truly terrifying classic! It’s not an Ito story, but it’s a real staple of the horror genre in anime, and I can’t wait to see it brought to life.
A live-action version of the anime series The Flowers of Evil is coming to Japanese television on TV Tokyo and will be available on Disney+ in April 2026. Fuku Suzuki and Ano will star as Takao Kasuga and Sawa Nakamura, respectively. The series is a well-regarded horror story known for its psychological thrills, even though it doesn’t rely on traditional monsters like some other works in the genre. Currently, it’s unclear if the adaptation will be released in North America, but given the growing popularity of live-action anime, it seems likely.
A Deadly Bouquet

Shuzo Oshimi’s manga, Flowers of Evil, debuted in 2009 and introduced a chilling story centered around the unsettling character of Nakamura. An anime adaptation followed in 2013, created by Studio Zexcs and consisting of thirteen episodes. Interestingly, this new live-action series isn’t the first time the story has been adapted for live-action; a Japanese film was released in 2019, demonstrating the story’s effectiveness in various formats.
Actors Fuku Suzuki and Ano recently talked about their roles in the new live-action series. Suzuki expressed his excitement about playing the main character, a role he connected with from his school days. He feels a personal connection to Kasuga Takao, noting they share a similar vibe, but he’s also eager to portray the character’s growth and transformation. Suzuki believes the character’s struggles will resonate with audiences, as he experienced similar feelings at that age. He hopes the series will encourage viewers to embrace their own complexities and find something meaningful in the story.
Ano explained that he felt like he was running from something without knowing what it was or where he was going. He’d been repeatedly recommended this project by others, and he vividly remembered the impact it had when he first read it – it felt like he’d finally found what he was looking for. Years later, he rediscovered that feeling, and never imagined he’d be playing opposite Nakamura-san. He embraced the opportunity and dedicated himself to the filming, hoping the audience wouldn’t miss it.
