Disney recently showcased the first look and announced the release date for its new animated fantasy film, Hexed. The movie features Hailee Steinfeld (known for Hawkeye) and Rashida Jones (Silo) as the main voice actors. The announcement was made during Disney’s presentation at CinemaCon 2026.
Disney announces new movie Hexed, reveals details with footage
The animated movie Hexed will be released in theaters on November 25, 2026, right before Thanksgiving – a time when Disney animated films have consistently been huge successes. The film, directed by Josie Trinidad and Jason Hand, promises a fun combination of relatable teen experiences and magical adventures.
The new footage introduces Hailee Steinfeld as Billie Doe, a quirky teenager feeling stifled in her small town. Things take an unexpected turn when she learns she has magical powers. The clip features a unique personality test given by a talking book with a British accent, using a quill pen (according to Deadline).
When a magical pen asks Billie if she’s ever faced extreme hardship, she jokingly replies that she’s only burned a steak while cooking. After she signs her name in an old book, a portal opens to a mysterious world full of magic and adventure, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Rashida Jones plays Billie’s very organized and driven mother, completing the central family relationship. The story unfolds as both mother and daughter discover a hidden magical world, dramatically changing their lives.
Roy Conli and Juan Pablo Reyes Lancaster-Jones are leading production on the upcoming film, Hexed, with Jared Bush, Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios, serving as executive producer. Bush first hinted at the project in August 2025 at a D23 event, but the official reveal at CinemaCon gave audiences their first real glimpse of the movie. Hexed is scheduled to be released on Thanksgiving this year.
