Disney revealed the cast and crew for its new animated movie, Hexed, at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. The film will be directed by Josie Trinidad and Jason Hand, and will star Hailee Steinfeld and Rashida Jones as Billie Joe and her mother. They discover a magical world that seems to be connected to their difficulties.
What Is Disney’s Hexed About?
Featuring the voices of Jim Hanks, CeeLo Green, and Emilie-Claire Barlow alongside Anna Kendrick and Jane Lynch, Hexed tells the story of a clumsy teenager and her overbearing mother who discover the teen’s quirks might actually be magical abilities. This discovery changes their lives and opens up a secret world of magic, according to Disney’s official description.
Hexed is produced by Roy Conli and Juan Pablo Reyes Lancaster-Jones, with Jared Bush serving as executive producer on the film. Currently, Hexed is slated to arrive in theaters on Nov, 25, although fans in attendance at CinemaCon were given a sneak peek at the feature, which reportedly showcased Billie undergoing a personality test and being interrogated by a sentient book and quill that speaks in a British accent and offers her the chance to explore the film’s fantastical other world.
What’s Next for the Stars of Disney’s Hexed?
Besides appearing in Hexed, Hailee Steinfeld and Rashida Jones both have new films coming out, each with a very different style. Rashida Jones will be in Good Sex, a movie about a therapist named Ally (Natalie Portman) who starts dating again after turning 40. She finds herself choosing between two men, played by Mark Ruffalo and Tucker Pillsbury, also known as Role Model.
Hailee Steinfeld is enjoying huge success after starring as Mary in the 2025 film Sinners, and she’ll be back as a superhero next year. She’s reprising her role in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which is scheduled for release on June 18, 2027. This film will conclude Sony’s Spider-Verse trilogy.
Fans have eagerly anticipated Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse for years. The movie was initially scheduled for release in 2024, but its release date was delayed several times, first to 2025 and then to 2027. While promoting her film Sinners last year, Hailee Steinfeld discussed the long wait and shared why she’s confident the final product will be great. She explained, “You have to trust the people making the film. I’ve learned that when you let them do their best work, you end up with something truly special.”
Before releasing Hexed, Disney is revisiting the world of Moana with a new live-action film. Following the popularity of live-action remakes like Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin, Disney is now reimagining Moana, and Dwayne Johnson will reprise his role as Maui.
Hexed is currently slated to arrive in theaters on Nov. 25.
