Disney’s Lilo & Stitch Is About to Cross a Major Milestone

Disney’s real-life adaptation of “Lilo & Stitch” is still astonishing audiences and the movie is approaching a significant milestone at global box offices. The Disney production has been surpassing predictions at the box office, earning an opening of $146 million, significantly more than the original animated film’s $35 million debut in 2002. What’s even more remarkable is that this live-action movie is on the verge of hitting the $1 billion mark globally, a feat achieved so far this year only by “Ne Zha 2” with $1.899 billion.

The newly released Disney remake made an astounding debut at the end of May, raking in $182.6 million over Memorial Day weekend, with $146 million of that coming from just the three-day span. So far, the live-action version of “Lilo & Stitch” has grossed approximately $562 million overseas and about $412 million domestically. This week, it’s projected to surpass the $1 billion mark, making it the seventh highest-grossing film this weekend with an anticipated earnings of around $2.7 million. The only other movie coming close to reaching a billion dollars at the box office this year is “A Minecraft Movie,” which has already made an incredible $955 million globally before experiencing a slowdown.
