Marvel Studios won’t be advertising during the Super Bowl, which isn’t surprising. Many fans expected a new trailer for Avengers: Doomsday to premiere during the game. The movie’s marketing began early, with a teaser revealing Chris Evans’ return in December. Four short teasers were shown before showings of Avatar: Fire & Ash over several weeks and then released online, but people were hoping they would lead to a larger reveal.
Many fans expected Marvel to drop a final trailer for Avengers: Doomsday at the Super Bowl, especially one featuring Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, given the huge audience. However, reports say neither Doomsday nor Marvel’s other 2026 film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day (a Sony project), will be advertised during the event. While surprising, Disney likely believes their marketing budget is better used on other priorities.
The Mandalorian & Grogu’s Super Bowl Trailer Is Much Bigger Without Doomsday

Although it’s not official, sources at Deadline suggest Marvel won’t have a presence, but we’ll probably see a trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu. There will likely be previews for other Disney movies, possibly Pixar’s Hoppers or Toy Story 5. However, the new Star Wars film is expected to generate the most excitement, especially considering who plays the game. Plus, a Super Bowl spot would be incredibly beneficial for the movie’s launch.
This film brings Star Wars back to the big screen after the controversial The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, and it’s a crucial release for Lucasfilm. However, initial reactions to the first trailer for Mandalorian & Grogu have been surprisingly quiet—and that’s putting it nicely. To get audiences excited enough to see this in theaters instead of just streaming it on Disney+, Lucasfilm has a lot of work ahead of it.
As a huge movie fan, I always feel like a film has a better chance if it doesn’t have to compete with another massive release. That really seemed to be the case with Solo: A Star Wars Story – it’s the only Star Wars movie that didn’t do well financially. There were a lot of reasons for that, like the negative reaction to The Last Jedi, concerns about recasting Han Solo, and honestly, whether we even needed a movie about his origins. But a big problem was the marketing – it just didn’t grab anyone’s attention, and it didn’t help that it came out only a few weeks after Avengers: Infinity War. Everyone was buzzing about Infinity War, but Solo barely registered on anyone’s radar.
Disney needs to avoid repeating this mistake. Since Avengers: Doomsday isn’t coming out until December, there’s no need for a big, expensive marketing campaign right now. A Doomsday trailer at the Super Bowl – especially one featuring Robert Downey Jr. – would have been the biggest movie moment of the night. That kind of promotional effort should be focused on The Mandalorian and Grogu instead. Avengers 5 doesn’t need the extra hype, but Star Wars definitely does, and this decision will at least make the trailer more effective.
Get ready for new adventures! The Mandalorian & Grogu hits theaters on May 22, 2026, followed by Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, 2026.
