Disney has been gradually expanding into the world of anime, starting with projects like Star Wars: Visions. Recently, Disney’s Twisted Wonderland has become a major offering, reimagining classic Disney characters in an anime style. Originally a mobile game, it was adapted into an anime series last October. The game continues to be updated alongside the anime, offering a unique and somewhat spooky take on Disney villains.
A recent event in the game Disney’s Twisted Wonderland has reimagined Oogie Boogie from The Nightmare Before Christmas with an anime-inspired design. This new version, called “Swing,” looks very different from the original stop-motion villain. He has a more human and distinctly anime appearance, though he still wears the familiar green covering. Surprisingly, a well-known voice actor is now providing the voice for this updated Oogie Boogie.
The new animated version of “Swing” features the voice of Kazuya Nakai, a well-known voice actor. Anime fans will likely recognize his name as he’s been the voice of Roronoa Zoro in One Piece for many years. He’s also voiced major characters in popular series like Samurai Champloo, Hellsing, God Eater, Fruit Baskets, Fire Force, and Blue Exorcist. While it hasn’t been officially announced, fans are hoping this unique take on Oogie Boogie will appear in the upcoming anime, potentially bringing The Nightmare Before Christmas back to the screen. You can see how fans are reacting to it below.

I’ve been eagerly anticipating news about Oogie for so long, and they just announced something while I wasn’t even looking! I’m completely overwhelmed!

I’m curious what non-TWST fans think of Swing’s (aka yassified Oogie Boogie’s) design.

I couldn’t help but notice how wild things seemed! And honestly, the name ‘Swing’ just seemed so random. My friend had a thought, though – maybe it’s a nod to the swing music featured in Oogie Boogie’s song during the NBC movie.

Swing is Not Oogie Boogie
The recent event in the Twisted Wonderland mobile game introduced a character who looks a lot like Oogie Boogie, but they aren’t the same person. Similar to how Jack Skellington appears in Twisted Wonderland, this new character, Skully, exists in a different world and is now meeting the original in a crossover event. The mobile game has already given several Disney characters fresh new designs. The anime adaptation of this unique series is just starting out, with new episodes available on Hulu in North America. If you’re curious about the show, here’s how Hulu describes it.
Yuken, a normal high school student, unexpectedly finds himself in Twisted-Wonderland, a magical and strange new world. He’s surrounded by monsters and students learning magic, but he has no magical abilities of his own. Now, he needs to figure out how to get back home.
