A fresh buzz about Doctor Strange’s part in the upcoming movies, “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars,” has popped up on the internet.
The Russo Brothers (Joe and Anthony Russo) are busy producing Marvel Studio’s upcoming movie, titled “Avengers: Doomsday.” This anticipated film is set for release the following year. Subsequently, the sequel “Avengers: Secret Wars” will hit cinemas in 2027.
What is the update on Doctor Strange and Avengers: Doomsday?
During a recent installment of The Hot Mic podcast, Jeff Sneider from The InSneider reportedly hinted that in upcoming Avengers films, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange might align himself with Victor Von Doom, also known as Doctor Doom.
At present, there’s only speculation about the plots for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars since no official details have been shared by Marvel. Additionally, Benedict Cumberbatch’s involvement in any of these Avengers films hasn’t been officially confirmed yet either.
Given this context, it’s plausible that the upcoming movie Avengers: Secret Wars follows the general outline of the Marvel Comics event penned by Jonathan Hickman and illustrated by Esad Ribić. In their narrative, Doctor Doom harnesses the power of the Beyonders to construct Battleworld following the catastrophic collision between Earth-616 and Earth-1610, which effectively obliterated the multiverse. Believing most of Earth-616’s superheroes perished during the incursion, Stephen Strange aligns with Doom and assumes the role of ‘Sheriff Strange,’ gaining authority over the Thor Corps in the process.
In due course, once some Earth-616 survivors are located, Strange ends up turning against Doom, eventually meeting his demise at the hands of this antagonist.
As a die-hard Marvel fan, I’ve been wondering if Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars might steer Strange towards siding with Doom. However, let me reassure you fellow movie enthusiasts, this doesn’t necessarily mean the films will follow the comic books word for word. As John Rocha, co-host of The Hot Mic, pointed out, they didn’t adhere strictly to the comics in Civil War or the Infinity Gauntlet Saga, and I can’t fathom them doing so this time around either.
The movie titled “Avengers: Doomsday” premieres on December 18, 2026. After that, “Avengers: Secret Wars” is set to release on December 17, 2027.
