Janet Fielding, who famously played a companion on Doctor Who, has revisited the location where she last appeared on the show to film a new short scene.
Tegan Jovanka, played by Janet Fielding, was a character on Doctor Who from 1981 to 1984. Her final scenes were filmed near Tower Bridge in September 1983, during the story ‘Resurrection of the Daleks’. Now, after more than forty years, the character is returning.
The actress filmed scenes for ‘Destination: Daleks’ with Peter Davison, who played the Fifth Doctor, at Butler’s Wharf. This was done to help promote a new Blu-ray release of the story.
Being back on set after all this time was incredibly moving, honestly. Peter and I have a really strong friendship, and it was just a pure joy to work with him again. Absolutely a fantastic experience.

Fielding shared with TopMob that she and Davison initially bonded through work, and that connection grew into a lasting friendship.
We tease and playfully argue with each other a lot, which is honestly typical of family. He’s always trying to one-up me, and unfortunately, he usually manages to do it.
David Richardson, who directs the Doctor Who audio dramas at Big Finish, often hears guest actors comment on the dynamic between Janet Fielding and Peter Davison. They’ve noticed the pair don’t always seem close, and Richardson confirms that’s just how they are! He jokes that when they are being polite to each other, that’s when things get really interesting. The location where they filmed in the 1980s, Butler’s Wharf, has changed dramatically. Once abandoned warehouses, it’s now a modern area with homes, restaurants, and shops along the River Thames.
Fielding noted how much the area had changed, adding that it always seemed destined to become a pleasant place to live once construction was finished.
When thinking back to filming her last scenes for ‘Resurrection of the Daleks,’ Fielding recalled that the stairs leading down to the river were quite slippery.
“I was wearing high heels and a tight leather skirt. It was emotional as I knew I was leaving.”

John Barrowman revisited his role in Doctor Who in 2022, appearing in Jodie Whittaker’s last episode, ‘The Power of the Doctor,’ with Sophie Aldred.
She later returned alongside Davison in Tales of the TARDIS, a series on BBC iPlayer.
Fielding noted that Doctor Who consistently resurfaces in conversations, describing it as a cyclical phenomenon. He believes this is due to the show’s long history and the sheer number of people who have been involved with it over the years, which he finds remarkable.
Doctor Who: The Collection – Season 21 will be released on Blu-ray on 16 March.
