Doctor Who composer teases more soundtrack releases coming very soon

As a lifelong Doctor Who fan, I’m pretty used to the show taking breaks! And right now, we’re in a bit of a long one – we’re all eagerly awaiting the Christmas special planned for 2026, so it’s a wait until the end of the year, for sure.

Fans are accustomed to delays in soundtrack releases. For example, the music from season 10, Peter Capaldi’s final season as the Doctor, wasn’t released until December 12, 2026 – a full nine years after it originally aired.

Some fans are concerned that previously experienced issues might occur with three upcoming soundtracks: those for the 60th anniversary specials, season 14, and season 15 (also referred to as seasons 1 and 2).

Fortunately, that doesn’t appear to be happening. Composer Murray Gold recently shared encouraging news with fans on the podcast, The Whoniverse Show.

When asked about the possibility of new music – including the three albums people have been talking about – Gold gave a clear and enthusiastic “Yes.”

As I promised, I always keep my word, and we’re definitely moving forward with this. I believe it will be completed around 2026, and ideally, all three parts will be finished then.

Gold, who rejoined the show for its 60th anniversary in 2023 after leaving in 2017, recently shared a little information about the upcoming Christmas special. Speaking on the Half the Picture podcast, she said Russell T Davies had written several versions of the script, depending on how things turned out, and she wasn’t even sure she was meant to know that.

It’s not yet known how this will affect the upcoming special, which will continue the story after the dramatic ending of the latest episode, ‘The Reality War’.

In a surprising turn of events, Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor transformed into Billie Piper, who famously played Rose Tyler, a companion to previous Doctors. This unexpected change has sparked a lot of discussion and theories among fans and those involved with the show, leading many to believe there’s more to the story than meets the eye.

Doctor Who will return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer this Christmas.
