The Wire star Bobby J Brown has died at the age of 62.
According to his daughter, the actor died on Tuesday, February 24th, after a fire broke out in a barn where he was located, as reported by TMZ.
A representative from the Maryland Chief Medical Examiner’s Office stated the death was ruled an accident, caused by extensive burns and smoke inhalation.
I was so shocked and saddened to hear about Brown’s passing. He was truly a talented actor and a wonderful person. I always admired his dedication to his work, and honestly, he was just a joy to be around on set. It was a privilege to work with him.
Reina Brown, the daughter of the deceased, described her father’s passing as a “huge loss” in an interview with PEOPLE. She shared that she received the news via a phone call at 11:30 PM on Tuesday.
I was fast asleep, having gone to bed around two hours earlier, when my little sister woke me up, completely panicked. She said our dad was missing and that he’d been caught in a barn fire. I asked her what she meant by that.
Everyone is still trying to come to terms with what happened. It’s been a really tough time for all of us. My dad was a wonderful person, truly one of a kind. He was a strong presence in our community and will be deeply missed by many.
Before becoming an actor, Brown enjoyed a promising boxing career, earning five Golden Glove titles.
He bagged early roles in TV series such as Pecker and The Corner.
He’s most famous for playing Bobby Brown, a police officer in Baltimore, on the highly praised HBO series, The Wire.
In addition to television roles on shows like Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and We Own This City, Brown has appeared in films including Really Love, Virginia, and Off Time.
Brown’s last onscreen appearance was in a short called Mailman in 2023.
In addition to her acting career, the star also directed two documentaries: Off the Chain and Tear the Roof Off: The Untold Story of Parliament Funkadelic.
The actor is survived by his wife and two daughters.
