Fans of both Doctor Who and Sherlock Holmes are in for a treat! Tom Baker, who famously played the Fourth Doctor, will be taking on the role of Sherlock Holmes in a brand new audio drama.
The new audio drama, Sir Sherlock: The Red Letter Day, is scheduled for release in March 2026. It’s set in 1924 and features the famous detective, Sherlock Holmes, unexpectedly accepting a knighthood.
Holmes, after enjoying a peaceful life in the countryside, returns to London and teams up with his friend Dr. Watson to solve a new murder.
I’m really excited to see Baker take on Sherlock Holmes again! This will be his third time playing the detective – I remember him being fantastic in the BBC’s The Hound of the Baskervilles, and I even heard great things about his stage performance as Holmes in The Mask of Moriarty back in 1985. It’s cool to see him return to the role!

Baker expressed his gratitude to AUK Studios for the opportunity to reprise his role as the famous detective. He jokingly hoped the third time was the charm, and that he did justice to the character’s iconic pipe. He encouraged audiences to enjoy his return to the setting of Baker Street, noting its fitting name.
You can now pre-order the audio drama ‘Sir Sherlock: The Red Letter Day’ on CD and as a book through the official Kickstarter page. Plus, there’s a special treat for fans of Doctor Who!
This is happening because Baker will be working with John Leeson again – he used to be the voice of K9 when they were both on Doctor Who.

He’s going to play Doctor John Watson and shared his excitement about working with Tom again, joking that he finally got to play the Doctor himself!

Joining him are Katy Ashworth (from CBeebies), the late Norman Eshley (‘New Tricks’), Conrad Westmaas (‘Secret Diary of a Call Girl’), Wink Taylor (‘Unsinkable’), Barnaby Eaton-Jones (‘Carry On’), and Ian Kubiak (‘Doctor Who – The Monthly Adventures’).
Tom Baker, who received an MBE in the 2025 New Year Honours, played a famous role in Doctor Who from 1974 to 1981.
