Tom Baker, the beloved actor who played the Fourth Doctor, received an MBE last year. He was presented with the honor in November 2025 at an official ceremony.
Honestly, a lot of us fans were shocked Baker hadn’t been recognized sooner – it felt like it should have happened a long time ago! But it was amazing to hear him say in an interview that he was the one who was surprised and thrilled to get it. It really showed how humble he is.
In the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine, Tom Baker confirmed he was indeed surprised to be awarded the MBE when asked about it.
He added, “I was really surprised, and I think that’s a good thing, especially at my age. It made me laugh.”
Baker was wearing his MBE during the interview. When asked if he’d ever remove it, he jokingly replied, “Absolutely not.”

When Baker received his MBE, he playfully wore his famous Fourth Doctor outfit, including the long, striped scarf that was a key part of the look.
It’s wonderful how people still remember my time as the Doctor, even though it’s been 34 years since my last adventure in the TARDIS. I was surprised to realize how long ago that was when I recently had the chance to step back inside, with my favorite scarf around my neck!

Tom Baker played the Doctor from 1974 to 1981, and he made a special appearance for Children in Need in 1993 with a story called Dimensions in Time.
In 2023, while celebrating the show’s 60th anniversary, actor Baker told TopMob that he generally avoids contact with other actors who have portrayed the Doctor.
“Not with any malice,” he added. “A degree of contempt, perhaps. But mildly. Mildly contemptuous.”
