Haven’t heard of Jackie Tyler in a while? Good news! Camille Coduri, the actress who played her in Doctor Who, recently talked about her surprise at last season’s big twist on The Whoniverse Show.
I was absolutely floored by the finale of ‘The Reality War’! Seeing Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor regenerate into Billie Piper – Rose Tyler! – was such a shock. I definitely didn’t see that coming, and I’m still trying to process it all!
We don’t know yet if she’ll be the next Doctor, or if that recent reveal has a hidden meaning. Even Coduri, who played Piper’s mother Jackie, was surprised by it all.
To show how Jackie might react, Coduri pretended to scream, covering her face with her hands.
She said she’d likely swear, probably exclaiming, “Oh my god!” if not something stronger.

As a critic, I found this scene particularly compelling because it beautifully captures the initial shock and disbelief. The character’s reaction isn’t just anger, it’s utter confusion. You can almost hear the internal struggle: ‘You’re telling me you’re the Doctor? That’s impossible! And… you’re a woman? But how can that be?’ It’s a brilliant moment of questioning everything they thought they knew.
She’s very self-focused and would likely be preoccupied with how things affect her. She’d probably hesitate to join, maybe even refuse at first, but could eventually agree. However, even if she was truly upset or worried, she’d keep her feelings to herself, possibly only confiding in her neighbors.

Does that mean we could see a return for the legend that is Jackie Tyler? We can only hope.
Piper hasn’t revealed many details about her comeback, simply stating that she couldn’t pass up the chance to return to the TARDIS, but she’s keeping the specifics – who, how, and when – a secret for now.
We’ll find out what happens in this year’s Christmas special, which Russell T Davies is writing. Stay tuned for more information!
