Tom Baker, famous for playing the Fourth Doctor in Doctor Who, celebrated receiving his MBE last week with a special touch: he wore his classic costume! The event was even more memorable as he got to see his former co-star, Louise Jameson, again.
It was really touching to see the actor surrounded by his family and friends when he got the award. And it made me so happy to spot Louise Jameson there! She played Leela with Tom Baker’s Doctor back in ’77 and ’78 – a classic pairing, and it was lovely to see them together again.

Honestly, it still blows my mind that people remember me and my time in the TARDIS after all these years – it’s been 34 years since my last adventure! I couldn’t believe it when I got back inside the TARDIS last week, and wrapping my favorite scarf around my neck just made it feel like coming home.
From January 1977 to March 1978, Leela, played by Louise Jameson, appeared in nine Doctor Who stories (a total of 40 episodes) alongside Tom Baker’s Fourth Doctor, travelling with him in the TARDIS.
Janet Jameson has discussed leaving the show, explaining her character’s unexpected choice to stay on Gallifrey and marry Andred, the head of security. This decision was quite controversial with viewers.
At a BFI event last year, the actress discussed how she would have preferred a different ending for her character. She suggested either a heroic death while saving the Doctor, or a dramatic flash-forward showing her with a large family. She felt the original ending – where her character left due to falling in love – was predictable and overused.
Following their time on Doctor Who, Tom Baker and Louise Jameson have continued their working relationship, frequently collaborating on audio dramas produced by Big Finish.
