Many fans were invested in the potential romance between the Thirteenth Doctor and Yaz in Doctor Who, and it’s understandable if you’re still thinking about it.
I was totally shipping Yaz and the Doctor! It was so sweet when Yaz finally told the Doctor how she felt, but then it was heartbreaking to see them say goodbye at the end of ‘The Power of the Doctor’. Honestly, a lot of us fans are really hoping we get to see what happens with them next – I’d love to know if they ever get back together!
The actors have returned to play their characters in Big Finish’s audio dramas, and Gill has hinted at how their relationship will evolve.
She told TopMob that their relationship is still growing and changing.
It’s a subtle element, and I appreciate that it isn’t the main focus of the characters’ stories – that’s true to the original show. It develops gradually, and it’s unclear where it’s going, as we saw with the recent storyline; we’re still unsure of its potential direction.
It’s good that this element is present and alluded to, but it’s not the main focus. Yaz is understandably trying to process her feelings, because she wasn’t even aware she had romantic feelings for the Doctor and is now trying to understand them.

We briefly acknowledge it, which is good because it’s present. It wasn’t ignored, and I’m glad we kept that element of the show, but any future development should happen naturally and at a measured pace.
After that, the story focuses on their adventures. While Yaz has romantic feelings for the Doctor, what she truly values is their friendship and simply being with her. That connection is really what the story is about.

Since finishing her role on Doctor Who in 2022, Gill has appeared in the crime dramas Curfew and Cooper & Fry, as well as the comedy series Can You Keep a Secret?
In 2024, it was revealed that she and Whittaker would be returning to their roles in Doctor Who, working with Big Finish.
Gill shared that Doctor Who has significantly impacted both her career and personal life, and she’s excited to explore new depths with her character in the upcoming series.
I’m thrilled to be working with Jodie again – we’re really good friends, and I know our recording sessions will be a lot of fun and filled with laughter.
