For George Clooney, the idea of stepping back from the screen isn’t up in the air.
Indeed, he’s settled on the fact that he never plans to stop acting.
In a recent interview with USA Today on December 2nd, George explained that stopping work can lead to a loss of social standing.
At 64, he believes there will always be roles for actors of his age. He joked, “There will always be parts for older men, like ‘Grandpa who eats soft bread,’ and I’d be perfect for those!” He appreciates that acting offers opportunities at any stage of life.
George Clooney’s jokes often hit close to home, but he also points to his own father, Nick Clooney, as a major influence. Nick encouraged him to always pursue his creative interests, and George, who shares 8-year-old twins Ella and Alexander with Amal Clooney, clearly took that advice to heart.
My dad is nearly 92 years old, and he continues to write. He believes it’s vital to remain active. He pointed out that, as a writer myself, I wouldn’t likely stop just because of my age – like reaching 70. He feels that creative pursuits allow you to stay engaged and do what you enjoy for as long as you want.
Despite his energy when it comes to his work, he does realize the gravity of aging.
I realized when I turned sixty that while I can still keep up playing basketball with much younger guys – even those in their twenties – I won’t always be able to. As I thought about it, I realized that no matter how healthy you are, age is still a factor. In twenty-five years, I’ll be eighty-five, and you can’t really change that.
I’ve been following George Clooney for years, and it’s so lovely to hear he’s prioritizing what really matters now – his family. He’s mentioned wanting to really cherish time with Amal and the twins as the years go on, and honestly, that’s wonderful to see.
He explained that it’s important to prioritize family and loved ones. He and his wife, Amal, are both very driven people, and they’ve been working on being more present with their children. He admitted that no one is perfect, including himself, and that everyone just does their best.
