Everyone is anticipating a post-credits scene in Wicked: For Good, one of the year’s most talked-about movies. Following the massive success of the first film, director Jon M. Chu returns with more of the story. Both films are based on the popular Broadway musical Wicked, which was originally inspired by Gregory Maguire’s novel of the same name. This new movie will cover the second half of the stage musical’s storyline.
Marvel’s clever use of scenes after the credits have become a common part of the movie experience, and now fans often wonder if there’s more to come after a film ends. With the huge popularity of Wicked as a franchise, people are likely asking if Universal Pictures has plans for sequels. Even if there aren’t more movies planned, a quick scene after the credits could still provide a fun extra moment for viewers.

Unlike many modern movies, Wicked: For Good doesn’t include a scene after the credits roll. The 2024 film follows the same pattern as last year’s Wicked, which also didn’t tease any future storylines after the iconic “Defying Gravity” song. The ending of Wicked: For Good might leave viewers wondering what happens next with Elphaba, Glinda, Fiyero, and the world of Oz, but for now, the movie provides a complete story.
If you’re fascinated by the story and background of Wicked, author Gregory Maguire has written several novels that expand on his original book. These novels are much more mature and complex than the Wicked movie, making them better suited for adult readers—and they don’t include any musical numbers. Despite the darker tone, they still capture the magical and imaginative spirit of L. Frank Baum’s The Wizard of Oz and everything that story has inspired.
Will There Be a ‘Wicked’ 3?
Currently, there aren’t any plans to make more Wicked movies after For Good, meaning Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande likely won’t reprise their roles as Elphaba and Glinda in future films. However, given the success of Wicked, it would be unexpected if Universal Pictures didn’t consider adapting other stories from the Wizard of Oz universe. It’s worth noting that author Gregory Maguire has only sold the film rights to his first Wicked novel, not any of the sequels.
