A key cast member from the show has hinted that the long-awaited movie conclusion might be coming much sooner than fans realize.
Donald Glover, known for his role in Community, recently shared an update on the much-anticipated movie follow-up. He told Entertainment Tonight that the team is actively developing the film, mentioning they’ve been discussing it recently through text messages.
Glover emphasized his sincerity, saying, ‘I know people have been predicting this for a long time, but I truly believe it’s about to happen.’
The Wait for the Community Movie — Explained
For years, fans of the TV show Community have been hoping for a movie to wrap up the series. The possibility of a film finale was even mentioned back in 2014, before the show had officially ended, and after the show finished airing, fans continued to eagerly await it.
Besides becoming a popular catchphrase among fans in its later years, the cast and creators of Community have consistently expressed their strong interest in making a movie based on the show.
Filming for the Community movie began in February 2023, just before the actors’ and writers’ strikes. However, production was halted due to scheduling conflicts. According to producer Russ Guest, a particular actor’s other work created a timing issue. He asked fans not to blame anyone involved, knowing how passionate the Community fanbase can be.
Despite never being officially confirmed by anyone involved, many dedicated fans thought budget issues were to blame for the changes to the finale.
Guest explained that while they could technically create a new season using visual effects, that wouldn’t work for Community. He specifically didn’t want to repeat the Arrested Development model on Netflix, where the cast was filmed separately. The heart of the show, he said, is the natural chemistry between the actors when they’re together, interacting in the same space. Therefore, getting everyone together in person is essential.
Where Can Fans See Donald Glover on the Silver Screen Today?
