Don’t Be Too Happy About DCU’s Batman Movie Release Date Report

Rumors about when the next Batman movie will come out have gotten people excited, but James Gunn is asking fans to be cautious and not trust everything they see online.

James Gunn says recent DCU Batman movie report is ‘fiction’

The Brave and the Bold, a new Batman movie, has been one of the slowest DC projects to get off the ground since the launch of DC Studios. Unlike other DC films and shows that are actively in production, updates on this animated movie have been scarce, though it’s still confirmed to be happening with Andy Muschietti as director.

Things started to shift when a rumor appeared online suggesting the script for The Brave and the Bold was complete and Warner Bros. was aiming for a 2028 release. Because there hadn’t been much official news lately, fans quickly shared and believed the claim, excited for any progress on the movie.

Okay, so there was a buzz going around about a potential Batman Beyond movie, and honestly, I got pretty excited. But that excitement quickly fizzled. James Gunn, one of the heads at DC Studios, jumped on Threads and directly shut down the rumor. Someone asked him if the report was true, and he replied pretty plainly: it’s not happening, and the script isn’t even finished. Bummer, right?

Dread Central reported that the script for The Brave and the Bold was finished and a release timeframe was set. However, James Gunn quickly refuted this, stating the film is still being written.

The most recent significant news about the movie was in June 2025, when James Gunn announced he was working with a writer on the Batman script. He emphasized that this project, along with Wonder Woman, was a key focus for DC Studios. However, Gunn has repeatedly stated that no DC Universe film will begin production until he approves a complete script that he’s happy with.

The Batman movie is still in development, and we don’t yet have any dates for when filming will begin or when it might be released.
