MGM+’s new version of The Magnificent Seven is attracting even more well-known actors, with Joanne Froggatt (from Downton Abbey) and Amy Forsyth (from The Gilded Age) recently joining the cast.
The story has been made into a movie twice before – the 1960 version was actually a remake of a 1954 Japanese film. Interestingly, the characters played by Joanne Froggatt and Duncan Forsyth weren’t in either of those earlier films.
Joining the cast, Eve Froggatt will play Harriet Talbot, a determined and resilient character who doesn’t hesitate to stand her ground.
Harriet’s life starts with hardship – born into poverty in Boston. She leaves a difficult and abusive marriage to a rich man while expecting a child. Seeking refuge, she finds a home for vulnerable women, where she’s pressured to consider giving her baby up for adoption.
According to reports, the character is a lost woman who found refuge with a welcoming Quaker community. They accepted her unconditionally, and she ultimately found a home and a new faith with them.
She dreamed of marriage and a peaceful life, so she traveled to Wyoming to marry Samuel, a man chosen for her by their Quaker community. But tragedy struck almost immediately – Samuel was killed shortly after the wedding, a deliberate act meant to drive them off their land. Determined to seek justice and safety, Harriet takes action, and her quest eventually leads Chris to join her. Harriet isn’t a fighter, but she’s incredibly strong-willed and determined.
Joanne Froggatt is most famous for playing Anna Bates in the popular series Downton Abbey. She’s also appeared in several other television shows, including Liar, Angela Black, North Shore, and MobLand.
Emilia Jones, known for her role in CODA, will play Katie ‘Deadeye’ Dalton, a sharp-tongued and reserved sharpshooter in the upcoming series. Katie joins the wild west show for her shooting ability and shares a memorable, though short-lived, romance with Vin (Michael Ealy) that leaves a lasting impression on both of them.
Returning home to an empty house, she starts drinking to cope with the loneliness and heartache. One night, while performing, she tragically causes the accidental death of a fellow actor.
Actress Forsyth has appeared in films such as Beautiful Boy and The Novice, and on television in series like Rise, Dear Edward, and Coyote.
Joining Matt Dillon, Will Patton, Michael Ealy, and Danny Pino in the cast are Froggatt and Forsyth. As two new characters, they represent a shift in the series’ storytelling, moving away from its traditionally male-focused plots. We’re excited to see how they portray their roles in what promises to be a gripping western.
In the 1880s American West, “The Magnificent Seven” tells the story of seven skilled but troubled guns-for-hire. They are recruited to defend a quiet Quaker village that has been attacked by bandits working for a greedy landowner who wants to steal their land.
The team is settling in and getting ready to fight a seemingly impossible battle, but they’re struggling with a difficult moral question: can they use violence to protect people who believe in peace? The series reveals the personal stories of each of the seven team members, explaining what they stand to lose and why they’ve chosen to take on this dangerous mission. It explores complex ideas about honor, self-sacrifice, finding forgiveness, what’s right and wrong, and the power of belief.
